 The first step in growing a productive crop is sowing quality seed.

A total of 461 vegetable varieties in 24 vegetable crops have been recommended for cultivation in various agro climatic zones of the country.

This includes 273 O.P. varieties, 141 hybrids and 47 O.P./

hybrids resistant to different biotic and abiotic stresses.

361 Production, 143 Seed Production, 121 Disease and 90 Insect Pest Management technologies have been developed.

• Superior quality vegetable seeds should be available in adequate quantity

• Public and private sector to be encouraged to enhance production of quality seeds

• Upgrade the quality of farmers’ saved seeds through interventions such as the Seed Village Scheme which can facilitate production and timely availability of seed

• Seed Map to identify potential, alternative and non- traditional areas for seed production of specific crops

• Seed multiplication for building adequate stocks of certified/quality seeds by providing foundation seed to farmers.
