Objective of the study

Research Methodology

  • Introduction
  • International comparison of services
  • India’s Service Sector
  • Performance of India’s Service sector

The growth of services grew at almost the same level worldwide in 2000, which is about 4-5 percent. But over time, our national service growth rate has been better than other countries. India's service growth rate has consistently been above its overall growth in the last decade.

The share of Banking and Insurance with a marginal improvement in its share to 5.7 percent was the most dynamic sector in 2011-12 with a growth of 13.2 percent in previous years. Real estate, home ownership and business services with a weight of 10.8 percent, which is slightly higher than a year ago and is a strong increase of 10.3 percent. Construction, the frontier services sector, has been the most vulnerable to global events and has a constant weight of 8.2 percent over this period.

Conclusion

Performance based on estimates and forecasts shows a mixed picture of growth for this year. Important commercial services for India in terms of their importance in terms of GDP, employment, exports and future prospects showed a positive trend.

The study reveals that the overall profitability and the position of the selected banks in relation to return on investment is moderate. A perusal of this table reveals the fact that the profitability of private sector banks and foreign banks shows an increasing trend in almost all profitability ratios except in the case of Return on Investment which shows a slight decline. Where profitability in the public sector banking group fell in most key figures, except in return on advances, which shows a slight increase.

The table further elaborates that the mean difference between public and private sector banks was insignificant at the 5% level of significance, except in the case of net interest margin to total assets (2012) and yield on advances. In contrast, the mean difference was significant between public and foreign banks in most ratios (except advance yield and adjusted advance yield). Overall analyzes show that foreign banks have the highest values for most profitability ratios, except for return on equity and return on advances, where the public sector bank group has a better position.
