1 INTRODUCTION

Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus which started in Wuhan of china. From China it spread all over the world then it turned into an Pandemic. This pandemic has affected our lives a lot. It also affected the education sector. Children were disproportionately affected by school closures due to COVID because not all children had access to the resources they needed to learn during the pandemic.

Children from low-income families and rural areas were more likely to drop out of online learning because they did not have access to adequate devices or the Internet. Low - resource schools whose students already face significant learning barriers.

Online education and its consequences due to Covid-19- Pandemic brought out a drastic change in the educational system not only in India but rather in the entire world.

Universities across India as well as around the globe moved to the virtual classes suspending physical classrooms.

Keywords: COVID-19, pandemic, Low – resource, online and infectious.

Online education - Online education is a flexible instructional delivery system that encompasses any kind of learning that takes place via the Internet. Online learning gives educators an opportunity to reach students who may not be able to enroll in a traditional classroom course and supports students who need to work on their own schedule and at their own pace.

The quantity of distance learning and online degrees in most disciplines is large and increasing rapidly. Schools and institutions that offer online learning are also increasing in number. Students pursuing degrees via the online approach must be selective to ensure that their coursework is done through a respected and credentialed institution.

2 RATIONAL FOR CONSIDERING ONLINE EDUCATION -

Online education has become a viable and exciting method for instructional delivery in the global business society that runs on a 24/7 schedule (24 hours a day/7 days a week) because it provides students with great flexibility.

With the increased availability of internet and computer technology, students are able to access information anytime and anyplace that would normally be available only through a traditional classroom. Studies have shown that students learn just as effectively in an online classroom as they do in the traditional classroom.

3 NEW EDUCATION POLICY

NEP 2020 is the first education policy of 21st century in India. This is only the third education policy of India after independence. The first policy for education was promulgated in 1968 and the second was implemented in 1986. It aims to create a new system that aligns with the aspirational goals of 21st century education, including SDG4, while building on India's traditions and value systems. It sets a target of increasing public spending on education by states, center to 6% of GDP.

4 IMPACT ON EMPLOYMENT

Along with studies, employment was also affected by the pandemic. Many institution closed, new appointment also stopped. When unemployment comes, attention is diverted from education, earning a living becomes the main objective.

5 USE OF SOFT COPY

In the situation of lockdown students and teachers were not able to collect study material or hard copy of any kind of papers and hence most of the people used soft copy material for reference or other uses. So it is eco-friendly effect.

COVID-19 has impacted immensely to the education sector of India. Though it has created many challenges, various opportunities are also evolved. The Indian Govt. and different stakeholders of education have explored the possibility of Open and Distance learning (ODL) by adopting different digital technologies to cope up with the present crisis of COVID-19. India is not fully equipped to make education reach all corners of the nation via digital platforms. The students who aren’t privileged like the others will suffer due to the present choice of digital platforms. But universities and the government of India are relentlessly trying to come up with a solution to resolve this problem. The priority should be to utilize digital technology to create an advantageous position for millions of young students in India. It is need of the hour for the educational institutions to strengthen their knowledge and Information Technology infrastructure to be ready for facing COVID-19 like situations. Even if the COVID-19 crisis stretches longer, there is an urgent need to take efforts on maximum utilization of online platforms so that students not only complete their degree in this academic year but also to get ready for the future digital oriented environment. The concept of “work from home” has greater relevance in such pandemic situation to reduce spread of COVID-19. India should develop creative strategies to ensure that all children must have sustainable access to learning during pandemic COVID-19. The Indian policies must include various individuals from diverse backgrounds including remote regions, marginalized and minority groups for effective delivery of education. As online practice is benefitting the students immensely, it should be continued after the lockdown.

Further detailed statistical study may be undertaken to explore the impact of COVID- 19 on education system of India.
