The Government of India introduced 9 pillars of digital India under the campaign[1].
These 9 pillars are nine areas that the government has planned to develop through the initiatives.
Fig. 1 Nine pillars of Digital India[1]
1) Broadband Highways:[3]
Under Digital India, there is a plan to connect about 2.5 lakh panchayats with this. A plan was made in 2016-2017 to spread the optical fiber network across the country with an estimated amount of twenty thousand crores.
2) Universal access to phones: [3]
Mobile phone users in India crossed 581 million users in 2014 and have grown steadily over the past decade. According to a survey by e-Marketer in 2015, India is estimated to have over 800 million mobile phone users in 2019.
3) Public Internet Access Program – National Rural Internet Mission[3]
Through this program, CSCs have been made universal through multi-dimensional end- points for service delivery through Gram-Panchayats. Along with this, post offices are also to be made multi-service centers.
4) E-Governance: Reforms through Technology[3]
Information technology will be used in all Ministries/Departments to improve transactions in government business processes. Under this, the promotion of online applications in all departments, recognition of online formats of school certificates and voter ID cards, Aadhaar, payment gateway mobile platforms, electronic data interchange, etc. to be made mandatory to facilitate in targeted and inter-operative service delivery to citizens and businesses. In addition, computerized methods will be used for the redress of public grievances of the people.

The pillar of 'information to all' will be aimed at providing information on services to all citizens through online internet websites and realistic information through social media and web-based systems such as MyGov.
7) Electronics manufacturing: Net zero import :[3]
In India, there is a need to strengthen the existing infrastructure to promote electronics manufacturing; A target of 'Net Zero Imports' has been set in this domain in the coming days. This will be an ambitious target, requiring coordinated action on multiple fronts such as taxation, incentives, economies of scale, and eliminating cost disadvantages.
8) IT Jobs:[3]
The objective of this pillar is to train people in small towns and villages for IT sector jobs.
9) Early Harvest Program :[3]
Under this, many schemes are being implemented in rural areas. There is a plan to provide basic facilities at the village level through the internet. In the early harvesting program, it has been made mandatory to send good wishes through the government platform, and to make biometric attendance mandatory for the employees of all central government offices.
4 CHALLENGES OF DIGITAL INDIA[7]
The government of India has taken a daunting initiative to launch and connect every rural area with high-speed internet. Apart from various initiatives taken up by the government, there are still some challenges as follows :
Lack of infrastructure: connecting every village with high-speed internet requires a vital amount of investment and infrastructure. The slow and delayed infrastructure in the country and the availability of low spectrum make it difficult.
Digital illiteracy: most of the citizen of India especially from rural areas still does not have enough knowledge about the internet and its uses. Full-fledged digitization is teamwork and requires administration changes and awareness campaigns backed by the government, especially in rural areas.
Cyber Crime: this is a major threat to the people of India since there are fewer or no internet privacy laws, and people usually get exposed to cyber crimes.
Net neutrality: making the internet accessible to every citizen of India, however, the issue is still on the table.
5 CONCLUSION
The government has started all the digital facilities and services for the people. Every youth in the country is taking advantage of the digital campaign in a big way and making digital payments in their daily life. The objective of Digital India is to make more and more services available online in India, which will give an edge to the economy and development of the country. According to the Digital India Campaign, high-speed internet facilities will be provided everywhere in India from a small villages to the city so people will be able to use all the facilities online while sitting at home and will make it a part of their life.
