A STUDY ON AWARENESS AMONG NEW GENERATION OF INDIA TOWARDS DIGITAL INDIA INITIATIVE

Abstract - Digitalization which is the need of today's world is the result of innovations and technological advances. Every country is aiming to achieve digitalization to empower society in a better way. Digital India is a flagship program launched by the Government of India to transform India in a digitally empowered and knowledge economy. This drive came as a dream project of the Indian government to remodel India digitally. This aim would be very difficult to achieve unless there is awareness amongst the people. Almost a year since the project is launched. This research paper is related to analyze the awareness among the new generation of India about the Digital India initiative.

1. INTRODUCTION

The world is at the beginning of a digital revolution, anything and everything that can go digital is going digital - at an exponential rate. Faster than we can imagine. Whether it is manufacturing, commerce, healthcare, education, entertainment – life is going Digital. We believe, in the next 20 years as human civilization, we will collectively achieve more than what has been achieved in the last 300 years. We are at the beginning of a new era for humanity. In this era, if you are not digital, and if you don't have globally competitive digital tools and skills, you simply will not survive. You will get disrupted. You will be outcompeted. You will be left behind. You will become irrelevant. India and Indians cannot afford to be left behind, and with a vision to transform and empowerment of digital skills of common Indians the Govt. of India launched a programme called THE DIGITAL INDIA PROGRAMME.

2. THE DIGITAL INDIA PROGRAMME

It is a well-known fact that digital India is the outcome of many innovations and technological advancements. These transform the lives of people in many ways and will empower the society in a better manner. The 'Digital India' programme, an initiative of Honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, will emerge new progressions in every sector and generates innovative endeavors for Gen Next. The motive behind the concept is to build participative, transparent and responsive system. The Digital India drive is a dream project of the Indian Government to remodel India into a knowledgeable economy and digitally empowered society, with good governance for citizens by bringing synchronization and co-ordination in public accountability, digitally connecting and delivering the government programs and services to mobilize the capability of information technology across government departments. Today, every nation wants to be fully digitalized and this programme strives to provide equal benefit to the user and service provider. Hence, an attempt has been made in this paper to understand Digital India – as a campaign where technologies and connectivity will come together to make an impact on all aspects of governance and improve the quality of life of citizens.

2 3. VISION OF DIGITAL INDIA

The vision of Digital India programme is to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The motive behind the concept is to build participative, transparent and responsive system. All educational institutions and government services will soon be able to provide I-ways round the clock. Digital India will provide all services electronically and promote digital literacy. Digital Technologies which includes the concept of cloud computing and mobile applications have emerged as the catalysts for express economic growth and citizen empowerment. Companies all over the world desire to invest in Digital India- the 21st century India, as a growth opportunity.

Vision Areas of Digital India: The Digital India programme is centered on three key vision areas:

The program contains tasks that target to make sure that govt. services are available to people digitally and people get advantage of the newest information and connections technological innovation. Gandhiji felt that 'India resides in its villages,' and technology will help the villages to grow and prosper. Digital libraries, online magazines, e-books can be made available for free which will further help in knowledge sharing. Technology is a bridge indeed, a bridge that connects the hope that India's villages will be educated and aware to the opportunity of internet and access to information from across the world. 'Digital India' is not just an initiative but a need for this country, where majority of population still does not have access to the world of internet. The Digital India initiative seeks to lay emphasis on e-governance and transform India into a digitally empowered society. It is to ensure that government services are available to citizens electronically. Digital India also aims to transform ease of doing business in the country.

This initiative has some major projects like -

 Highways to have broadband services

 Easy access to mobile connectivity

 IT Training for Jobs

 Manufacturing of electronics

 Provide public access to internet

 E-Governance

 E-Kranti

 Global Information

 Early harvest programs 4. IMPACTS OF DIGITAL INDIA

There are some impacts of digital India which are as follows : i) Impact on Technology:

The digital India project provides a huge opportunity to use the latest technology to redefine India the paradigms of service industry. A digitally connected India can help in improving social and economic condition of people living in different geographical area Impact on Economy It can play a key role in macro economic factors such as GDP growth, employment generation, labour productivity, growth in number of businesses and revenue leakages for the government. The Digital India opportunity for telecom operators like the rest of the industry, the service provider segment globally, and in India is undergoing a transition thanks to emerging technology trends. The change especially in India is closely associated with other factors that include social, economic and political.

From a technology perspective one of the most talked about trends today is the Internet of Everything (IoE). Expected to create $19 trillion in value over the next 10 years, this gives service providers a tremendous opportunity to create value for both enterprises and consumers. According to Cisco figures, IoE is estimated to create business value of up to $511 billion over the next decade in India. This includes

$394.4 billion in the private sector and $116.2 billion in the public sector.

ii) Impact on Social sector:

Social sectors such as education, healthcare and banking are unable to reach out to the citizens due to obstructions and limitations such as middleman, illiteracy, poverty, lack of funds, living locality and investments. Modern ICT makes it easier for people to obtain access to services and resources. The penetration of mobile devices may be highly useful as a complementary channel to public service delivery apart from creation of entirely new services.

iii) Impact on Environment:

The major changes in the technology space have not only brought changes to the economic system but are contributing to the environment changes. The next generation technologies are helping in lowering the carbon footprint by reducing fuel consumption, waste management, greener management, greener workplaces and thus leading to a greener ecosystem.

iv) Impact on Agriculture Sector:

The governance will shift from e-governance to m governance i.e. is mobile governance. Farmers can access all kind of information though their mobile phones as when required which will boost this sector also.

5. OBJECTIVES

An objective is something you plan to achieve. A specific result that a person or system aims to achieve within a time frame and with available resources. The objective of this study is to find out Awareness among New Generation of India towards Digital India Initiative.

6. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

To find out the awareness of Digital India initiative a questionnaire has prepared and collected data from 125 respondents between the age limit of 25 to 35 years, which belongs to the new generation of the India.

As per the table above it is mentioned that about 89 respondents which belongs to new generation of the India are aware about the new campaign of Indian government i.e. Digital India. The percentage of awareness about Digital India initiative is 71.20% as per the study.

28.80% respondents are not yet aware about this initiative i.e. 36 respondents.

So as per the analysis of above table we may say that a large number of new generations is aware about Digital India Campaign, because of new trends and technologies are adopting by the Indian society.

7. CONCLUSION

The outcome of Digital India is to provide Wi-Fi to people, creating job, universal phone connection, high speed internet , Digital Inclusion, e Services, e Governance, Digitally motivated people, National Scholarships Portal , Digital Lockers System, e-education and e- health making India to be pioneer in IT use solution. More employment prospects will open for the youth that will boost the nation’s economy. And some of the aforementioned projects are under various stages of implementation which may require some transformational process reengineering, refinements and adjustment for successful implementation to achieve the desired objectives. The success of this dream project lies not only in the hands of government but it requires all round support from the all citizens and other stake holders of the nation. Although, digital India programme is facing some barriers, yet it has a great impact on India to make the best future of every citizen. We Indians and others should work together to shape the knowledge economy. Let us all look forward and join hands for the successful implementation of this project for the brighter and prosperous India.
