INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING RESOURCES 4.1 – Physical Facilities

The institute has a well-oiled system for maintaining the physical, academic and support facilities built on campus over the years. During the allocation of the annual budget, appropriate budgetary provisions are made to carry out this all-important work. The cleanliness in each department of the institute is maintained daily by the permanent skilled support.

Farm, Horticulture and Landscape Operations Service Unit (FHLOSU) of the Institute, which not only handles the day-to-day repair and maintenance of the imported and indigenous machinery but also supervises all. The maintenance of equipment/instruments placed in various departments is handled by the concerned HOD as per the laid down General Financial Rules (GFR). The Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for all costly and sensitive instrument/equipment in these divisions is obtained for their uninterrupted and trouble-free use by the recipients.

The IT facilities for providing internet services across the campus are also maintained under the AMC. A senior member of the faculty, who together with the librarian, are technical officers, has been appointed in charge of the central library. At the end of the academic year, the stock is verified and the librarian prepares the report.

The purchase of books in accordance with the requirements is carried out through the committee, by inviting requests for books from various departments, which are then processed according to the standard public procurement procedure. Needless to say, it is the Government of India (GOI) during the execution of all the purchases.

STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION 5.1 – Student Support

Union (PGSSU), which raises major concerns of the students and issues related to them at different fora for their resolution and implementation. The Board of Studies (BOS) in each Discipline also has a student representative, who actively participates in the decision. It is a timely sown desi variety that is drought tolerant and has a yield advantage of 10.83 percent over controls with a yield potential of 2.7 tonnes/ha. It recorded an overall weighted average yield advantage of 18.8 over the best national control (JAKI 9218) with an overall weighted average yield of 1618 kg/ha. It is highly resistant to Fusarium wilt and stunting and moderately resistant (MR) to dry root rot, collar rot and Botrytis gray mold.

The variety has been released to Central India in 2020 by Central Variety Release Committee (CVRC), Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DACFW), Government of India for Central Zone consisting of Central Zone (CZ) consisting of Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Bundelkhand. Pusa 391 across all centers tested in National WRIL Trials under AICRIP over two consecutive years across the central testing zone viz Rabi 2018-19. It has a total weighted average yield of 2392 kg/ha and has a yield potential of 3915 kg/ha under wilt stress conditions compared to the returning parent Pusa 391 which yielded 1877 kg/ha.
