t is our pleasure to release the first issue of the journal of Frontiers in Biomedical Technologies (FBT) as a quarterly pub- lication. The editorial team would like to take this opportunity to briefly describe the main motivation behind launching FBT, and the objec- tives to be pursued in the future. In doing so, we endeav- or to clarify for researchers, Engineers, implementers, funders and policy-makers how we believe that FBT fits into the state-of-the-art expanding technology and sci- ence development.

The journal of Frontiers in Biomedical Technologies is the official scientific quarterly publication of the In- stitute for Advanced Medical Technologies (IAMT), affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The editorial board of the journal is planned to include a group of highly-recognized scientists, tech- nologists and researchers worldwide.

The target of the journal of Frontiers in Biomedical Technologies is to provide a source for exchanging and presenting the results of the latest research works related to different disciplines in biomedical technolo- gies, with the principal objective of promoting the level of health care in different fields of biomedicine through innovative technology developments. The journal of Frontiers in Biomedical Technologies also contributes in this effort by publishing outcomes of new scientific and technological investigations. The subjects covered by the journal include innovative medical technologies, diagnostic tools, systems and devices, such as medical

robotics; surgical navigation; clinical and preclinical medical imaging (diagnostic radiology, quantitative imaging); molecular imaging (magnetic resonance im- aging, ultrasound imaging, nuclear medicine, optic and laser); tissue engineering; neural engineering; model- ing and control of biological systems; signal and image processing; cognitive sciences and nanobiomimetics technology.

The journal will provide a forum through which ideas, thinking, comments and findings can be disseminated to the industry, professional and academic worlds across a broad spectrum of areas. The journal welcomes multi- disciplinary articles that relate a wide range of health- care technologies. The main idea behind collecting ma- terial from both disciplines of technology and medicine in a scientific journal is to connect all researchers in those fields, hoping to open a road to improve the qual- ity of healthcare with the presence of advanced tech- nologies in medicine.

It is my pleasure to serve FBT as the editor-in-chief.

I do appreciate contributions of all authors who have tried their best to present their works through the scien- tific writing. I would like to thank the referees who have not only carefully reviewed the manuscript, but also did provide many constructive feedback which have been extremely helpful and of great importance in leveling up the journal standards. I would also like to extend our grateful thanks to all colleagues in the editorial team.

We will keep improving the FBT to a high-quality and well-recognized international journal.
