Among the collected chalcidoid wasps from northwestern Iran, we found a pair of Mymaridae (Hym.: Chalcidoidea) in Malaise trap collected specimens. These specimens belong to the genus Stephanodes Enock that includes only six described species (Noyes, 2012), of which Stephanodes reduvioli (Perkins) has been previously reported from Iran (Huber & Fidalgo, 1997).

These small wasps were collected in 12 August, 2010 in Khosroshahr, Tabriz, in Azarbaijan-e Sharghi province. They were identified as Stephanodes similis (Förster) that was later confirmed by the last author. It is a new report for the Iranian fauna increasing the total number of the reported species of Stephanodes in Iran

to two species. The host of S. similis is unknown but other members of the genus are egg parasitoids of Nabidae and Cicadellidae (Huber & Fidalgo, 1997).

This species is widely distributed in Europe, North America and Argentina (Triapitsyn & Berezovskiy, 2002). The genus Stephanodes, which belongs to the Polynema group of genera, is distinguished from closely related genera by following characters: scape with inner surface rasp-like, with imbricated sculpture;

vertex large, shallow depressions outside each ocellus;

mesosoma smooth and dorsally convex; prothoracic spiracle advanced forward of posterolateral margin of pronotum, flush with surface (Lin et al., 2007).
