Course Description: Improves presentation skills. Students learn skills of selecting a topic, finding appropriate Japanese sources, and creating an effective presentation of research results. Students are encouraged to develop techniques of presenting their ideas clearly in a way that interests an audience. This year the course focuses on interview skills. Students form five groups of three or four people in all . One group represents a company etc.

and interviews another group of students that represent interviewees. (student feedback) Verbal comments by instructor on students’ performance will be given in class.

Course Goals/Objectives: (1) To obtain presentation skills at group interview. (2) To obtain knowledge and

insight about what interviewers want to know at an interview session for job applicants. (3) Advanced communicative proficiency in Japanese.

Class Preparation and Review: A student is advised to think about and prepare well for the interview s/he

conducts at least one hour a day. Here are some tips for the preparation. To know well about (1) what kind of ability his/her company etc. requires of its applicants. (2) what s/he wants to know about the job applicants by asking such and such a question, (3) how s/he should ask a question in order to know about what s/he wants to know.

Course Policies (Attendance , etc.) Attendance and Class Participation: 1. No credits for the course will be given

to a student who has missed more than five class sessions, including Final Examination; that is, with six absences+ s/he will be required to withdraw from the course. 2. If you are 10 minutes late for the class, it will be counted as absence and not as tardiness. The same rule is to be applied if you leave the class 10 minutes before it ends. 3. Neither eating nor drinking is allowed during the class.
