Documents for Application
We require a nomination from your home university. Please contact the International Office of your home university. You then need to send us the required documents and as soon as all documents have been submitted you will receive your admission letter to state you have been accepted to carry out a semester abroad at RUB.

GPA
Requirement
Up to this day there is no language requirement but to be able to follow the lectures and seminars we advise you to have a good command of the German language (at least level B2).
Language of Instruction
Most courses at RUB are taught in German. There are also some courses taught in English. A brochure is issued every semester listing the classes and degree courses offered in English by the different departments at RUB. The brochure can be obtained from the International Office or
downloaded from the internet site. More information on downloading the brochure can be found here:

Arrival and Orientation Programme

Airport Pick-up We do not offer an airport pick-up service. Bochum is close to Düsseldorf and Dortmund Airport.
Most flights go to Düsseldorf International Airport. It is easy to get from the airports to Bochum.
The airports have a very good train connection to Bochum central station. For information on schedules and ticket prices please have a look at http://bahn.de
At Bochum central station you can be picked up by members of ESN. Please, contact them in advance and let them know when you arrive.

Requirements &
Procedures
Students from Japan can travel to Germany without a visa. If they stay longer than three months they have to apply for a visa once they are in Germany.

Insurance
Non-European students have to take out a German health insurance. The amount for a health insurance in Germany is around 75€ each month.
Expenses
Accommodation Approx. 300€/Month Meals Approx. 150€/Month Local
Transportation
The amount for the ticket for the local transport (approx. 160€) is included in the semester contribution fee which is approx. 260€ for one semester (6 months). This semester contribution fee has to be paid in the beginning of the semester.
Academic Approx. 40€/Month
Expenses (textbook, stationeries, etc)
Personal Expenses
Approx. 40€/Month
Other Expenses Clothes: Approx. 50€/Month
Health Insurance: Approx. 75€/Month Semester Contribution Fee: Approx. 260€
