Furthermore, the service design appears to help patients with some mental problems that interfere with their healthy diabetes management. This study provides the Echo service model for young diabetes patients using user-centered design methodologies and design thinking approaches. The results of this study aim to provide a meaningful impact of service design on young patients with diabetes.

INTRODUCTION

Background and Motivation

In this way, a patient checks the trends in the data with a specific category, such as the activity page, blood glucose page, and so on. The patients record their data, not only to track it later, but also to learn from the trends displayed in the data. Second, the research needed to provide alternative design solutions that can validate a patient-friendly interface design in the management of diabetes.

Objectives

It seems that most of these methods provide a single function: displaying a record of their previous input data on a single page for the patients. However, current diabetes applications display the result of each dataset with its trends on every page. There is a gap between the transition from one page to another, missing the learning relationship between all the data presented on each page.

Design Approach

This new platform seeks to change negative thoughts that patients develop while living with diabetes. To see the data between blood sugar levels, the patient must zoom in on the enlarged graph, which allows the effect of each element on blood sugar levels to be realized. Furthermore, patients' curiosity about each element's effect on their blood sugar levels will push them to engage in controlling their blood sugar levels on a daily basis.

RELATED WORK

Diabetes Care and Education

  • Current practices of diabetes care and education
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Diabetes Management

These patients are usually unable to focus on their diabetes management due to distorted perceptions and depression caused by diabetes. The counselor in the CBT program helps patients identify factors that interfere with diabetes self-management and continues to find solutions to overcome patients' involvement in depression. CBT program counselors suggest helping patients create positive reasons to be more active in treatment through counseling, actively encouraging them to change cognitions that interfere with diabetes management into positive thoughts.

Online social networking platforms for diabetes patients

  • Patient’s groups in online social networks

They can know detailed information about every drug, supplement, or device used to treat patients like them and learn what works, easily connect with patients who have the same conditions, have the same symptoms, or use similar treatments, and they learn from patients like them. Patients Like Me Write Emoticon Screen (Source: patientslikeme.com) The posting function is also designed quite similarly to a conventional social networking service (SNS). But patients like me have special patient response buttons that can express applause, support, and helpful behavior.

Digital Healthcare

  • Healthcare Services in the digital medium

The current development in digital healthcare indicates a major expansion in the consumer market of digital healthcare services for patients as well as the general population for a healthy lifestyle and disease control (Mun et al., 2017). In particular, digital platforms have improved access to health information and medical knowledge, allowing patients, as well as the general public, to independently expand their understanding and awareness of their medical and health issues (Realpe and Wallace, 2010; Patricio et al., 2018). Babylon also enables disease symptom checking through artificial intelligence-based machine doctor accessible through chatbots (Barisevičius et al., 2018).

DESIGN APPROACH

Preliminary User Research

  • User research
  • Persona
  • Competitive analysis map
  • Ideation workshop with user story
  • Affinity diagram

1-2 As a 30s - 40s diabetic patient, I want to form my journaling habit through a plan that sets a specific period for myself. 2-1 As a 30s - 40s diabetes patient, I will share the process of my effort with the other patient with my own blog. So I get motivated and I can see the process of becoming a champion in the category of diabetes management.

3-1 As a patient aged 30 - 40 years, I want to know the risk of diabetes through self-diagnostic tests with accurate indicators. 3-2 As a patient aged 30 - 40, I want to regularly check the abnormalities found in my body through indicators. Diabetics may think of themselves as an expert in diabetes management and self-management, and the second idea is "Number 5."

Diabetics may think of themselves as an expert in diabetes management and self-management, and the other is 'Number 2. Diabetics want to communicate with similarly situated patients through the online community.' The second is 'Number 4. The service can allow diabetics to share their diabetes management tips.' The last one is 'Number 5.

Cognitive behavioral therapy-based services can help alleviate depression in diabetes management.' The therapy is specifically designed based on the insights of CBT and the patient's community.

Post User Research

  • Participants and deployment
  • Qualitative interview with the toolkit
  • Usability test for magnify graph
  • Explain user scenario
  • Post user research affinity diagram

The question was put together to see how people find their solution when they meet the problem in diabetes management, which is the purpose and goal of the Echo palette. The idea sheet's special goal was that how people draw the function and their idea about the Palette function on the sheet so that they understand the function of the palette in the interview session cannot be enough. The special purpose of the idea sheet is to make people understand the function of the palette by having them draw the function and their own ideas about the palette function on the sheet.

Pre-task' will make the interviewees think about the problem in their diabetes management and find a solution themselves with some information that is the function and purpose of the Echo palette. And after they draw their idea on the idea sheet, they can open the folded sheet in half and see the entire contents of the idea sheet (Figure 21). The Pre-task allows the user to first think about the function of the palette and draw and express his idea on the sheet.

The interviewees explained the reason for the ideas they expressed on the idea sheet and how they think about the design of the echo. During the interview, it was not easy to express their idea on the sheet, but they enjoyed explaining their thoughts after they started drawing, and the interviewees could start the idea work without a strange feeling about the palette's function, because they already had an experience of pre-task planning . Second, with idea sheet number 2, After they have pre-task in their home, a few of the interviewees asked me about the goal of pre-task number 2, which is related to idea sheet number 2.

Echo Magnify Graph, these three things are one of the reasons to have a usability test done. We can see how the user understands the function of Echo Magnify Graph and also check its usability. The Enlarge Chart is one of the components of the design with a strong user story (Figure 33).

DESIGN OUTCOMES

Echo Service Design

  • Magnify Graph
  • Palette
  • Therapy and echo message
  • Echo talk

So Echo Palette is the feature that starts with the need for diabetes management in young diabetics. Younger patients can more specifically manage their diabetes through the Palette, which is significant in alleviating the anxiety of diabetes management. First, patients can predict the new day through Palette and isolate the problem themselves.

Diabetics can make their diabetes schedule, choose a new problem in their life and develop solutions accordingly using the Palette (Figure 45). A) Figure for the expected state, (B) First step of the palette. Based on these records from the Echo Message, Echo Therapy is administered to users when a patient's condition is recorded as a group status of users who are classified outside of a specific health category. When the therapy begins with the user, the patient will answer the questions asked and name their mood.

The appropriate service intervention is then provided depending on the condition of the labeled patient. Moreover, through ultrasound messages, patients can record their various data, which can be easily forgotten. One of the main features of Talk is that users can click on their profile to set basic information and preferably check messages from another user in the intersection with the user based on their settings.

This feature of Talk can increase the patient's motivation by analyzing his activities based on self-care.

DISCUSSION

Summary and Contributions

The service application provides diabetes management while providing positive impacts on young diabetics' mental health. This study confirms that service with diabetes management and mental health management is difficult to find in the market. Therefore, it is conceivable that the proposed Echo service application provides a platform for patients to change their negative behavior towards diabetes management and boost positive habits for self-oriented care.
