Welcome Remark

Oct. 23, 2012

Dear honorable guests, Ladies and gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all as a host institution of “Global HR Forum 2012” with Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Korea and the Korea Economic Daily. Particularly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to international participants for traveling all the way to Korea to contribute to the discussion on “Better Education, Best Welfare” in this 7th Global HR Forum.

As we have seen in the recent financial crisis in Europe, the global economy remains largely volatile, international community is in urgent need of new policy framework to ensure sustainable and balanced economic growth and generation of quality jobs.

With no quick recovery in sight for the western countries in their financial soundness, the welfare system that allowed them to realize welfare states in the second half of the 20th century proved to be no longer sustainable. Now the world is entering an era where the individuals should take more responsibility of managing such risks as unemployment, health and disasters

We have chosen ‘Better Education, The Best Welfare’ as the theme of the Global HR Forum 2012, as individual citizens can manage their own welfare without the support from the state if they are equipped with the right skills for the jobs demanded in society

The Global HR Forum have brought global leaders in a unique setting to exchange accumulated experiences, share practices, and search for innovative HRD solutions that will ultimately lead to the benefit of the global society.

Most global and universal challenges can be overcome when we consider education as the best welfare and collaborate closely focusing on human resources and their potential talent for future. I am confident that active information sharing and vigorous discussions would enable us to discover new solutions to the challenges faced.

I truly hope the Forum will be productive and useful for all of you and that our international visitors have an enjoyable and rewarding stay in Korea.

Thank you very much.

Dr. Young-bum Park, President of KRIVET
