GRID-системы с добровольно-распределенными вычислениями поощряются к использованию свободных мощностей персональных компьютеров, когда пользователи сами предоставляют неиспользуемые мощности своих станций для решения важных научных задач, не ограничивая себя в возможности использования своих компьютеров, путем использования их на 100% при необходимости (например, во время запуска современных компьютерных игр). В качестве основной платформы для реализации GRID-системы добровольных распределенных вычислений исследовались различные программные продукты: Globus toolbox, BOINC, Unicore и др. В качестве среды для реализации прототипа сервера GRID-системы был выбран программный продукт VMware VMware Workstation.
В ходе испытаний была протестирована операционная система, рекомендованная разработчиками программного продукта BOINC — Debian 4.0, а также операционные системы CentOS 5.6, Ubuntu Server 10.10 и Debian 6.0. В качестве общей основы был установлен ряд программных продуктов с открытым исходным кодом (m4, make, autoconf, g++-4.1 и др.) Были установлены пакеты с открытым исходным кодом (apache2-mpm-prefork, libapache2-mod-php5, mysql -client- 5.1, mysql-server-5.1 и др.), необходимых для работы серверной части GRID-системы. После сборки и установки BOINC-сервера успешно реализован тестовый проект и запущено тестовое задание на 4-х клиентских компьютерах GRID-системы.
