THE ROLE OF DENTAL ASSOCIATIONS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DENTISTRY
IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN
Existing associations in the RK:
Kazakhstan Dental Association (KSA) established in 1990.
Official member of FDI since 1995 up to present time.
National Association of dentists in Kazakhstan (NASK).
Association of juristic dental organizations (ASO).
Association of Kazakhstani dentists (ASK) established in 2012.
Represents Kazakhstan at the CIS association within the FDI.

1. Contribution in development of rationale infrastructure of dentistry in the RK.
2. Contribution in development and improvement of dental education, bachelor degree, undergraduate, postgraduate education, residency program, continuing education.
3. Organization of events such as conferences, meetings, presentations, workshops, exhibitions.
4. Collaboration with other organizations, associations, universities etc.
(Contribution in research and study for local universities).
5. Consultation of conflict situations by experts holding certificate issued by department of medical quality’ control of the Ministry of Health.

Education process of dental faculties in the RK
In 2005 Kazakhstan joined to Bologna declaration, however only Kazakh National Medical University educates students 100% according to this process.
Other faculties combine old undergraduate educational system with new postgraduate system (Residency, Mastership, Doctorate).
Nazarbayev University in Astana city (opened in 2011) follows American system of education which includes bachelor degree, graduate and postgraduate education.
Nazarbayev University, School of Science and technology prepare students for bachelor degree with major in Biomedical science specifically concentrated in
MCAT (medical college admission tests) potential for American medical and dental schools.
Contribution in improvement of dental education
Kazakhstan dental associations put efforts for new educational
technologies through organization of seminars and workshops for faculty stuff.
Contribute to build new cooperation with international universities.
Organized webinars, roundtables with different universities for experience exchange.
Consults with research projects, article publication at journals with impact factors, etc.
Organize workshops for faculty stuff to learn and understand teaching
methods such as TBL, small groups, PBL etc.

According to the data presented by Dr. Esembayeva (Chief dentist of the RK) in the RK: 5878 dentists including dental technicians.
570 state dental organization.
Over than 1165 private organizations
Population density: Almaty, Shymkent, Astana, Karaganda areas
Actual problems
Increased number of dentists in the urban area compare to the rural areas.
Increased number of new technologies’ import and absence of appropriate workshops from dealers.
Low level of preventive dentistry and low promotion of appropriate
information about prevention against dental disorders.
Contribution of dental associations in dental practice
Reports about current dental situation at the government level.
Organization of conferences, seminars followed by appropriate report addressed to the Ministry of Health.
Discussion of existing problems with affiliate areas with members of association.
Discussion with companies about possible promotion of preventive dentistry among the population with involvement of dental practitioners.
Discussion with companies about constant support with workshops and consultation for their new dental products technologies.
General dental issues
Existing requirements of sanitary-epidemiological authorities does not meet standards of new technologies, such as size of dental office for one chair, x-ray room, additional spaces, etc.
Delay approval of protocols of clinical treatment relates to complicated system at the state level.
Consolidation of accredited experts for appropriate consultation of
dentists against conflict situation with patients.
