KOTA KINABALU: The People’s Republic of China will be holding a science and technology exhibition featuring 50 exhibits, including a large-scale dome

planetarium, here this year.

State Science, Technology and Innovation (KSTI) Minister Datuk Arifin Arif said the Sabah State Library in Tanjung Aru has been proposed to be the venue for the event.

“A three-year memorandum of understanding has been signed with China through its Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu Dr Huang Shifang.

“I believe having such enlightenment from advanced countries like China would benefit Sabahans, especially students,” he said to reporters after Huang’s courtesy visit at his office here.

Huang, during the working visit, revealed that the theme of the exhibition would be

“Experience Science, Inspire Innovation”.

“It all depends on the items’ shipment time. We will try our best to expedite the rocess,” she said when asked on the date.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Datuk Zainudin Aman, said the dome planetarium would be about six meters in height.

“Therefore, the open space inside the State Library Tanjung Aru is perfect. We are also planning to bring the exhibits to Tawau and Sandakan.

“The exhibition period is all up to the State Government but we can hold it for up to three years. We can expect it to start before year-end,” he said.
