Individual Challenges
Self-Control Self-Concept
The SELF
The self is an individual person as the object of its own reflective consciousness
Self-Concept
• Foundational theory – the “self ” and the
“self-concept” (Roger, 1951)
• Then, view an individual in “structural”
terms (also known as self-structural)
Self-Structural
• Perceptions of the self which are admissible to awareness:
– Characteristics and abilities
– Relations to others and to the environment – Value qualities which are perceived as
associated with experiences and objects
The Self ‘Structure’
• Presents in an organized picture:
– Existing in awareness either as figure or ground – Of the self and of the self-in-relationship
– Positive or negative values which associated with qualities and relationships
– Are perceived as existing in the past, present and future
The Philosophy
• The Self is also ‘fluid’ to a degree
• The Self is not immune to experience
• The Self is not so structured that it is unalterable
• The Self is more constant than perception which provides continuity to the personality

The Noble Truths
Commitment
•Working with them over a sensible time period
Enlisting
•Appropriate others to help (referral)
• To refine the Resilience Framework (RF, Hart et al., 2007) – to produce empirical evidences and cultural diversities using communities of practice approach
• The RF is a strategic model that promotes wellbeing by acting tactically about where to direct one’s efforts when building resilience (2007).
