About ITB

Dating back to 1920 and first established as De Technische Hoogeschool te Bandung (TH) during the Dutch Colonial period, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is the oldest technical university in Indonesia. During the Japanese occupation in 1944-1945, TH changed its name to Bandung Kogyo Daigaku. On July 3, 2020, ITB celebrated its 100th anniversary, having graduated about 120,000 alumni with significant roles in developing the country. Today, ITB houses 12 Faculties and Schools and a Graduate School, encompassing 130 study programs. To support research activities, ITB has 111 research groups, with centers and research centers as well as centers of excellence in science and technology.

International Study Programs

International Undergraduate Programs

ITB offers 21 international undergraduate programs, divided into 2 categories:

Ø International Classes, encompassing programs taught in English:

1. Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (School of Pharmacy) 2. Clinical and Community Pharmacy (School of Pharmacy) 3. Chemical Engineering (Faculty of Industrial Technology)

4. Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering) 5. Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) 6. Aerospace Engineering (Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) 7. Management (School of Business & Management)

8. Entrepreneurship (School of Business & Management)

At least one semester study abroad is required, such as student exchange and double degree.

Opportunities for double degree are currently available only for Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Management, and Entrepreneurship – for other programs, double degree arrangements are in progress.

Ø International Tracks, are programs for students who can opt to join relevant regular

programs (mostly taught in Indonesian) or international classes (taught in English). There are currently 13 undergraduate programs that offer international tracks.

International Graduate Programs

ITB offers up to 83 international graduate programs, which are programs that accept international students. These programs are taught in either English or Indonesian. Some programs are by default taught in Indonesian yet can be flexibly switched to English when international students are present. All Faculties and Schools have international graduate programs, both at the master’s and doctoral levels, including programs organized in the Graduate School (Master in

Nanotechnology, Doctor in Nanotechnology and Science).

Partnerships with International Study Programs

Partners and prospective partners who wish to develop arrangements on student exchange (at the university-level or at the faculty/school-level) and double degree (with specific international study programs at ITB) can contact Andika Putra Pratama, Ph.D. (Head of Division, International Relations; [email protected]).

Inbound Semester Exchange

International students, especially from partner universities of ITB (including universities that are parts of the ASEA-UNINET, AUN-ACTS, AIMS Program, and GE3 Network, are welcome to study at ITB for 1 to 2 semesters as exchange students. To apply, except for GE3, students must be nominated by the International Office of home university to ITB’s International Relations Office ([email protected]) by March 31 or October 15 for each academic year. Once nominated, students will later be done via the following website: https://admission.itb.ac.id/home/student-exchange (including information about the list of courses).

International Scholarship or Fellowship Programs Ganesha Talent Assistantships (GTA)

Prospective doctoral students can apply for the Ganesha Talent Assistantship program, a fellowship program by ITB. More information can be found here: https://sagata.itb.ac.id.

KNB (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang) Scholarships

ITB is one of a few universities in Indonesia that hosts students coming from developing countries that receive the Indonesian scholarship under the KNB scholarship program. More information can be found here: http://knb.kemdikbud.go.id.

Facilities and International Student Activities

International students generally have access to all facilities that all students of ITB can access. Accommodation in ITB’s owned dormitories for international is available but limited (Price: IDR 750,000 / month for shared rooms and IDR 1,500,000 / month for single rooms). Off-campus accommodation is also available (please contact [email protected] for the list) – the price is typically between IDR 2-3 million / month (room size around 12-15 m2, facilities vary, around 3-10 minute by public transportation or 10-30-minute walk).

Campus healthcare unit (including covid-19 hotline) and sports unit (e.g.

gym, pool, running track) is also available for international students. Once on campus, ITB can typically arrange a free Indonesian language course and a cultural trip. Indonesian buddies for international students are also set up. In addition, other activities such as company visits, lab visits (within ITB), and community services can also be arranged.

ITB programs have been nationally and internationally accredited, including by ABET, ASIIN, KAAB, RSC, and AACSB.

Other Facts About ITB, Bandung, and Indonesia

Ø Two former presidents of Indonesia were alumni of ITB (President Soekarno, the first president, and President B.J. Habibie).

Ø ITB currently has 3 campuses, in Bandung as the main campus (Ganesha Campus), in Sumedang (Jatinangor Campus), and in Cirebon (Cirebon Campus). All campuses are located in the West Java Province.

The city of Bandung is part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and home of the Asia-Africa Conferences (1955, 2005, 2015). It is located at 768 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains in the north and in the south. Cirebon borders with the Central Java Province and is located by the sea in the north of Java.
