Kempen derma darah SPRUMS dapat

LABUAN: Kempen derma darah anjuran Sekretariat Pencegah Rasuah Universiti Malaysia Sabah (SPRUMS) Cawangan Labuan telah mendapat sambutan yang

menggalakkan daripada kakitangan dan pelajar Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kampus Antarabangsa Labuan (UMSKAL), baru- baru ini.

PAMERAN yang diadakan bersebelahan kaunter pendaftaran.

PENOERMA darah dalam kalangan mahasiswa UMSKAL

Program yangmenyasarkan warga UMSKAL itu bagi meningkatkan jumlah penderma darah di Wilayah Persekutuan La buan di samping dapat mendedahkan kebaikan menderma darah pada kesihatan individu.

Penyelaras program Roji Sinun berkata, objektif kempen itu bukan sahaja untuk membantu pihak hospital menarnbah bekalan darah tetapi juga untuk memupuk nilai integriti dan prihatin dalam setiap individu yang hadir untuk sarna-sarna membantu mereka yang memerlukan.

Katanya, kempen itu dilaksanakan bagi melahirkan pelajar yang aktifbukan sahaja dari segi akedamik tapi dalam semua aspek terutama sahsiah dan kerohanian mahasiswa.

Sramai 134 orang tarnpil menderma darah termasuk ahli dalam kempen yang

dianjurkan SPRUMS dengan kerjasama UMSKAL dan Hospital Labuan.

SPRUMS menyasarkan golongan belia kerana mereka merupakan golongan yang aktif dan mempunyai pengaruh terhadap rakan sebaya mereka sekali gus dapatmenarikdalamkalangan mereka untuk menderma darah.

PenganUiPrograrnSyahidah Ma~mud mengucapkan tenma kasih kepada semua penderma sekali gus membantu menambah bekalan darah di Hospital Labuan.

Kempen yang bermula dari jam 9 pagi hingga 3 petang dan diadakan di Bilik Sri Menanti, Menara UMSKAL itu dikendalikan Unit Tabung

UMS strives to increase number of students

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) strives to increase the number of stu- dents in science and technology in line with the development of science and technology world- wide .

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah said the university expected as many as 60 per cent of first-time undergraduates will pursue sci- ence and technology courses.

"I believe with the addition of more science and technology students each year, we can achieve the aspiration to be- come a developed country that emphasises on a literate society with a culture for science in every dimension of life.

"Therefore, I urge students. to continue cultivating an interest in science and technology and to be committed in becoming part of the driving force that achieves national goals.

"Prove to the world that stu- dents are also contributors to the development of science and technology not only in Malaysia but throughout the world," he said.

Dr. Mohd Harun said this in his speech at the 5th presen- tation of the Foundation Course in Science Certificates at the Recital Hall of VMS here yes- terday.

The speech was delivered by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Associate Prof. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali. A total of31O received the Foundation Course in Science Certificate.

'Mohd Harun said the field of science and technology in Malaysia was rapidly advanc- ing in leaps and bounds.

Therefore, the government made every effort to emphasise on science and technology and which has now been producing encouraging results.

"The government is aware that in order to be a competitive nation, it requires a great deal of highly skilled human resource.
