Makerfest

• The Makerfest program is offered to universities in Malaysia and ASEAN

countries to promote innovation and entrepreneurship spirit

• Asia School of Business (ASB) in

collaboration with MIT Sloan School of

Mission

• To influence innovation and

entrepreneurship attitudes of young

students through hands-on exposure to art, technology, and ideation & fabrication

processes.

Schedule

Time Session Notes

4-5 PM -Introduction

-Ideation Session

-Defining Mini Project for Digital Fabrication

5-7 PM -3D CAD Basics

-Intro to 3D Printing

Please have SketchUp downloaded & installed in student PCs. Design

mechanical part for Mini Project.

7-9 PM -Introduction to Arduino -Basics of Electronics -Learning to code

Please have Arduino IDE installed in student PCs.

Design electronics/code for Mini Project

9 PM- 9 AM -Open Session to complete Mini Project

Students are free to stay or leave.

9AM - 12PM -Team formation

-Project challenge definition -Solution Ideation

-Solution Pitch

Students work in their team on their final project that they define. They develop solution and present their concepts.

12 - 6 PM -Product architecting -Division into physical, electronics & coding tasks -Fabrication starts

7 - 8 PM -Teams present their learning to others for helping other teams

-Teams start to prepare PPT presentation

8 PM- 9 AM -Open Session to complete Project

Students are free to stay or leave.

Introduction

• Greeting settlers… “Nama Berita Nuan?”

• Due to overpopulation, you have been tasked to set up a new longhouse

settlement

• In order to set up the settlement, you will need to look into the following social

problems

• Energy

• Communication

• Health

• Food

• Transportation

• Environment

• Safety

Energy

• There are no electricity supply in Longhouse X.

• You brought along with you:

A portable power generator that only operates 12 hours a day.

Enough fuel for 2 weeks.

Communication

• There is no means of

communication between the

nearest town and the longhouse

• Important news only arrive after a week

• Basically can not do anything during emergency

Education

• No internet access

• Limited electricity

Basically can not study at night

• Illiterate children are high

Health

• The nearest medical assistance is 100km away in a small town.

• Mosquitoes, flies and rodents are the common pest.

• There are local herbs suitable for treatments.

• Flus and fevers are the most common health problem.

Food

• Wild animals are present.

• There are fruit trees and edible plants present

• There is a patch of

fertile plain land near River X

• You are given rice seeds for planting

• You are given enough food to last for 2

months

Transportation

• The settlement is in a rural area

• The nearest town most likely is 100km away

• There are no existing paved

road, only dirt road or river full with crocodiles

• By air, yes possible, only limited to certain areas and it is a very small plane

Environment

• The climate is a tropical climate.

Warm and humid with rain all year round

Skin deceases and other health issues

• There is an open plain area near River X

• The area is covered with forest

• Wild animals are present

• Wild and dangerous animals are present:

Venomous snakes, crocodiles, wild boars.
