Congratulations to the new students to be part of the Faculty of Engineering (FKJ), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Some of the highlights found in the Presentation/Talk/Conference category are articles on Materials and Energy Colloquium 2020 (MEC2020) and 2nd IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Engineering and Technology (IICAIET2020). It is one of the new norms to curb the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Ismail Saad, dean of the Faculty of Engineering called on all students to use the opportunity they have at the University to study hard. The Faculty of Engineering conducts online exams for the first time in the history of the Faculty and Universities. The final online examination was held after the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, which prevented students from attending face-to-face to participate in any teaching and learning (T&L) activities including examinations.

Rasid Mail, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), during his visit to the examination center on the first day of the examination, was very satisfied with the preparation and smoothness of the examination. Some of the limitations faced by the students will be improved with the care and attention of the respective teachers. Some of the traditional ethnic houses chosen as case studies are Bagan House, Iban Longhouse and Rungus, Brunei and Kedayan Traditional House, Bugis Traditional House, Bajau, Bisaya, Lundayeh, Murut, Iranun and Dusun.

Farzana Waily, one of the civil engineering students shared that this project on the theme of traditional cultural heritage has indirectly given exposure to the student about the richness of our country's cultural heritage and she was also impressed with the uniqueness of various valuable traditional ethnic groups. "The scope of the research includes 10M elements: 1) Main area functions and history, 2) Materials, 3) Labor, 4) Machines and tools, 5) Construction methods, 6) Maintenance, 7) Money and budget, 8) Management, 9) Measurement and finally 10) Modeling.

On August 13, 2020, the IEEE Student Branch (UMS) organized the first online exhibition of the IEEE-UMS Electrical & Electronic Engineering Project 2020 through the Zoom and Google Meet platforms. This annual exhibition for the HK02 EEE program used to be held at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. This year, the expo has gone online and provides a platform for exchange of ideas and valuable interactions between current students, lecturers, IEEE members, UMS alumni and industry panels.

With the wide diversity in the background of the participating judges, the participants were fortunate to be exposed to a range of constructive criticism and numerous examples of the presentation of some of the standards of the requirements from both locals and outsiders. The exhibition started with parallel sections of (A) Integrated Design Project Competition and (B) Final Year Project Poster Presentation, followed by (C) Talkon Industrial “Opportunities and Challenges of. Lai spoke about the challenges other EEE students will face while transitioning into the work environment.

He also talked about his early life after graduating from UMS apart from advice and tips about the industry.

The World Bank in its 2017 report shows that the access to electricity (% by population) in Malaysia has reached 100% thanks to the various incentives, policies, funds, investments and strategies introduced by the government as highlighted under the 9th and 10th Malaysian Plan. Therefore, a team from the Faculty of Engineering (FKJ) through the UMS KinaGeopark program conducted a preliminary study on the potential of solar power performance for rural electrification in Sabah. The ecotourism center lies deep in a valley, and it is also located along a river (serving as the main attraction for visitors).

Because of this difficult terrain, it is extremely challenging to lay electrical cables to connect to the main national grid as the cost will be prohibitively high. In addition, it will also be quite dangerous due to the high possibility of flooding, which can be dangerous for the surrounding community. From the total number of projects approved, the Faculty of Engineering, UMS (Faculty Kejuruteraan, FKJ) has managed to receive 5 projects under the supervision of Sr.

Moreover, it helps improve their communication and community interaction skills as well as the ability to show commitment to the community like what a student from the B.L.E.S.S batch, Suffian Bin Abdul Karim, did. The day when Sabah starts banning its people from crossing the next district due to the increase in positive cases of Covid-19. For example, the installation of our prototype Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT) array has been delayed due to the restriction.

In addition to having high citation potential and requiring no laboratory work, this may be a good time to publish a review paper. Due to the large amount of data that needs to be collected, working in a group to produce a review paper is highly recommended. Our group, including scholars from UPM, UiTM, UMT and UTM, submitted a review article on spent mushroom compost to the Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management. Hopefully we can go through the whole process and get published, InsyaAllah.

In addition, our academics should harness the potential of our undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and guide them to produce a high-quality peer-reviewed paper. Critics of the second finding should be included in contributing our opinions and expertise in this area. One of the great moments during the MCO is making the lecture notes on a review paper via YouTube (FIGURE 3).

To conclude, through proper tajweeez (plan and preparation) and tanfeez (execution), it is possible to publish a review article and surely improve our performance during these difficult days. Junidah Lamaming (postdoctoral fellow) and Mohd Al Mussa Ugak (research assistant) to the Environmental Chemical Engineering Group.
