Perpustakaan Islam Digital Islamic Library in Your Hands
Dr. Ahmad Lutfi Fathullah, MA, Director Pusat Kajian Hadis
A. Background of studies
Alhamdulillah, praise and supreme gratitude to Allah, the Lord of Heaven and Earth, Allah the creator of human being and their intelligence and achievements.
Shalawat and salam may always devoted to the Prophet Muhammad, the Last Prophet who loved his ummah, taught and encouraged them to learn and teach. Because with the knowledge a person is going to know themselves, to know nature, know their God and know the Prophet.
May the prayers and peace is also presented to friends and relatives of the Prophet, as well as his followers. Aamiin.
Studies and books are two different things but it is difficult to separate. Book is a medium to record knowledge that is discovered by humans to be stored or distributed. Those books are then put together and placed in a library. Hundreds, even thousands to millions of books accumulated there.
As a student, especially teachers and especially ulama, a library is a very important fortune to be owned. It will be strange if an ulama / teacher have dozens of books only.
Feels odd if a campus, also boarding schools, with poor reference books. The library only collect dozens of books, or just a few hundred books.
Those strangeness became common sights. The majority of Islamic colleges and boarding schools are still poor with their book collections, so their libraries are barely worthy to be called “a library” due to lack of existing book collection. Doesn’t sound really nice, but that is the reality.
B. Seeing what is already existed
Alhamdulillah, advances in technology, especially computer technology, is a blessing to cover the portrait of the above shortcomings. Some programs has been created for books like the Hadith, Tafseer and Fiqh, or for large groups such as Maktabah al-Syamilah, al- Maktabah al-Kubra, al-Maktabah al-Zahabiyyah, and Jawami 'al-Kalim summarizing the various disciplines of Islam.
In addition, there is also some programs that is served with PDF on the internet. Several sites on the internet presents data in the form PDF to thousands of books. Among the sites mentioned are waqfeya.com, miskat.net and almustofa.com.
Develop further, programs that brings together the comprehensive study to one particular discipline are also popping up. Dorar.net for example, was an excellent program for this category.
C. A note for the programs that is already created
All programs at the top, has its advantages and disadvantages. Maktabah al-Syamilah for example, have a shortage which is the texts are oftenly not complete. In fact,
academically, this program should not / cannot be a valid reference. However, this program has its advantages, among others, is to find data with this program is easy.
In contrast to the data provided waqfeya.com. The books in accordance with the printed form since is served in Scan / PDF. But his books have not become a unified program and they must be accessed through the Internet. So when the network is not available, or its download speed is slow, the available data are often incomplete.
Hadith Sharif, is a very good application, providing many doors of study and analysis.
Unfortunately this application is limited to only about 9 major hadith.
Jawami 'al-Kalim, is also a good application once, sums it up quite a lot of books.
Unfortunately, this application is only served by text, so the problems that we find in programs that is served by text is also found in this program.
D. Creating a new one
Well, departing from the advantages and disadvantages of each program, the author tried to summarize some of the advantages of the existing program while providing new ground by offering a program that it felt could answer the needs of the ummah, and to serve a standard and maximal reference for ulama.
From this, the authors and enginer made the Digital Islamic Library, Association of
Classical and Contemporary 6000 Vol.
1. Basic programs are sheets of books that appear in two forms: PDF and Flip book.
2. PDF chosen because it can be copied
3. Flip the form of book-selected for appearance will be the same as the original book.
The problem that arises is the amount of memory required, but the solution came when hardisc that is available on the market is no longer limited to 500 GB, but is to 1 and even 2 tera. New problems arise, hardisc price is still quite expensive. Yet still affordable.

5. Offline version on external hardisk
The program has amassed nearly 3,000 book titles from various disciplines of Islam, the book's binding to 3000 has reached over 6000 volumes. The books summarize some disciplines, namely:
Total Book Titles: 2770 (without repetition mold)
Total Volume: 6100
Page: 2875447 Themes of content:
1. Al-Qur'an: 758 volumes 2. Hadith: 2066 volumes 3. Qur'an: 63 volumes
4. Science of Hadith: 135 volumes 5. Fiqh: 1013 volumes
6. Hadith Rijal: 258 volumes 7. Tafseer: 490 volumes
8. Matan Hadith: 1673 volumes
9. Aqidah: 382 volumes
10. Science of Qur’an: 192 volumes 11. Usul Fiqh: 253 volumes
12. Language: 456 13. Da'wah: 58 volumes 14. History: 712 volumes 15. Tarbiyah: 40 volumes 16. Encyclopedia: 99 volumes 17. Others: 209 volumes F. Data source
The source of the datas in the program is www.waqfeya.com. The site is a waqaf site which means the books that are displayed belong to the ummah because it has been waqafly given. So there are no further terms relating to copyrights.
Then, because we take the goods waqf, then the author makes this program as an open program, that the author did not lock it, and did not register the rights of copyright. But the author only registered the copyright, just to avoid the possibility of people abusing this program.
A big advantage of using waqfeya.com as a source is waqfeya.com always continue to increase in the reference books t so that the program will continue to be developed and added more books compiled.
G. Disadvantages and Advantages of PID
As a man-made program, certainly there are shortcomings. Some of them are:
1. Can not search existing text in the book.
2. Requires external hard drives that are quite expensive (actually cheap for only $ 100-150 US).
While the advantages include:
1. Offline version 2. Easy to use
3. May be put on local server in university / network 4. May be taken anywhere, without the need for internet.
5. May use a computer to anyone, because just plug the hard disk.
6. The book, published in the program can continue to be added 7. Can use proram two options at once. (PDF and Flipbook)
8. Can open multiple books at once without having to close the other.
H. Hope : future project
The authors hope, in the fourth edition, the books that are created by archipelago ulamas will be also accessible in this Digital Islamic Library. Or even made a special library contains works of archipelago ulamas only. Advances in technology will facilitate this effort.
The benefit is obvious, especially in terms of language. Equally understandable that the majority of the Muslims in this archipelago have not been able to interact with the language of Arabic. Well if the local language is used, then the spread of knowledge will be increased and efforts to educate the nation's children are getting closer and open.
The obstacles that will appear, does the author of books would like to donate their books?
Many are not willing, or is willing but it is already the publisher's copyright, and
publishers rarely been able to make printed books by waqaf with that one simple reason.
I. Closing
Hopefully this Digital Islamic Library can be a solution for us the students in the country that have not been able to have the books needed in order to deepen the Islamic sciences.
