Meeting report for “Major Expert Meeting on Comparative Studies for Fisheries Management in the Seine Basin in the Southeast Asia Region. 4th Expert Meeting on Comparative Studies of Seine Purse Seine Fisheries in the Southeast Asia Region.
Brunei's fisheries fall under the authority of the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, which is responsible for overseeing all aspects of management, including fisheries research, enforcement, marketing, conservation and development. In general, the government's objective for fisheries development is to improve food security, national self-reliance and socio-economic status of workers in the fisheries sector. A key fisheries management initiative in the use of fishing zones to ensure sustainable exploitation of marine resources and to minimize conflict between small and large scale fishermen.
Fishing effort in the industrial sector is controlled by limiting the number of licenses issued to trawlers, purse seines and longlines, and catches are monitored through monthly catch logs required by industrial fishing vessels. Brunei's total production from marine fisheries decreased from 14 966 tonnes in 2016 to 13 796 tonnes in 2017, with the use of small-scale and commercial fishing vessels, with the number of vessels decreasing from 28 to 26.

OVERVIEW
Common fishing area for seine fishing: the southern area of Rakhine State and Tanintharyi region. Hilsafish is mainly harvested, and purse seine fishing season is from October to May annually. Anjosnotnot are two boats that sail in very shallow water in coastal areas and mainly target anchovies of the genus Stolephorus. The anchovies fishery also harvests small mackerel and sardine species such as Rastrelliger spp.
Among Sardinella spp. golden striped sardine (Sardinella gibbosa), fringed sardine (Sardinella fimbriata) and spotted sardine (Sardinella amblygaster) are often found. They are fished together with fins in seine fishing and also in trawling.

Based on the previous result and also presented in CEM 2016, no significant or homogeneous structure of Amblygaster sirm at 4 locations in the South China Sea (Kudat, Kuantan, Muara and Songkhla). As of CEM 2017, results are based on both sides; The South China Sea and the Andaman Sea (especially from Ranong) show a genetic anomaly of Amblygaster sirm, derived from the mtDNA Cyt b gene. TWO groups of Amblygaster sirm with HIGH genetic distance between the South China Sea (including Banda Acheh (southern Andaman Sea) and Ranong (northern Andaman Sea).

We performed ABC rule analysis for synthesized SCS and AS based on the capture data of 4 MCs. The current (2015) status, shown as black point, is in the safety zone, but not in the target zone, shown as the light blue area.
We examined catch and effort data provided by 8 MCs, and found that data from KH, MM, PH and VN could not be used for the present analysis due to large fluctuations in interannual catch variations. We performed analyzes using the Production Model for 4 MCs in SCS and only Thailand in AS and examined the current status using the Kobe I Plot with the target area index (less than 80% of Fmsy).
Species composition
Vessels from southern areas go fishing to the northern areas. Southern areas have fewer potential fishing areas (due to land borders) than the northern areas which depict the zone distribution across East Coast Peninsular Malaysia. Aim of this study
Fox model assumes the production follows Gompertz curve instead of Logistic Curve in Schaefer's Model. Feedback control procedure has a similar performance for mixed species data compared to single species data, as far as in the limited simulation cases. Brunei Darussalam: Opportunity to become leading countries in SEA for establishing effective data collection in the future. First of all, I would like to thank you all for your active participation in the "4th Core Meeting of Experts on Comparative Studies for Purse Seine Fisheries in the South East Asian Region". During the two-day meeting, we shared the latest information on the landings and CPUEs of the PS fishery in the region, compiled the current management measures for the PS fishery in the region, shared experiences on data processing for the management of the purse seine fishery, and population structure for Amblygaster sirm.
In the country reports, the four delegations of Malaysia provided the current stock status using the non-equilibrium production model from ASPIC and Kobe Plot, and the MFRDMD provided results using the ABC 2-2 rule and the equilibrium production model, which becomes an important step for the further development of stock assessment in the region . I especially appreciate our experts for their hard work and contribution to the workshop, which is very helpful in upgrading fisheries management in the region.
