Skillbox webinar a hit with students

PUTRAJAYA: The SKILLBOX@Kelab Malaysiaku virtual webinar was a resounding success with the participation of more than 1,600 secondary students from 706 schools nationwide who turned up for its second series on Saturday.

The programme, which was broadcast in two sessions, is a pilot programme organised by the Information Department that aimed to kick-start discussions highlighting topics that would contribute in building the personalities of secondary school students, especially through their participation with Kelab Malaysiaku in schools.

The second session of the programme, which was broadcast on Livestorm, YouTube and Facebook on Saturday, initiated conversations on career development, to give students insights in planning their future career paths.

The organisers invited nationally known digital content creators and artists with an excellent track record to discuss the importance of academia and balanced time management.

Among the guest speakers was Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, 29, popularly known as the digital content creator Khairul Aming, famous for his tagline "Hey, what's up, guys?" at every

introduction of his cooking reels on Instagram.

Khairul said programmes such as SKILLBOX@Kelab Malaysiaku were a good movement in encouraging secondary school students to get inspired and begin planning for their future careers, as well as getting well adapted to the digital world.

"I believe it is a good move as we do not want the school students to be left behind in the digital world, especially now when we have begun face-to-face lessons in schools.

"This (interacting digitally) is the way forward and as we move out of th e pandemic, I

hope school students will continue to improve on their digital presence and gain knowledge and new skills from their involvement in the digital world," he said.

He hoped more programmes such as the SKILLBOX@Kelab Malaysiaku programme would be conducted in future.

He also advised students to never give up on their studies, especially in rebuilding themselves.

"We can see that student confidence is depleting because they've been confined to online classes. I hope they would find a way to rebuild themselves and their confidence while getting out of their comfort zones in doing so."

The first session of the pilot programme under the theme "Patriotism" was aired through Livestorm webinar platform on Sept 25, with the participation of 969 students from 497 schools nationwide.

Each webinar session is divided into three different topics with interactive elements which are pop quiz, musical performance by PENTARAMA, a short preview of educational video, live chats to enable participants to interact with the guest speakers as well an online survey towards the end of the programme.

According to the Information Department, the targeted audience for

the SKILLBOX@Kelab Malaysiaku pilot webinar was initially set for a maximum of 1,000 students.

However, seeing the participation that exceeded their targets on both webinar series, the department planned to increase participation opportunities in their next virtual programme.
