During the financial year, the Group appointed an independent external consultant to conduct a review of appropriate anti-bribery and anti-corruption procedures ("Review"). MARKETPLACE
The Indonesian government introduced the mandatory ISPO certification scheme to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of the Indonesian palm oil industry. They continue to receive incentives from our Bornion palm oil mill as one of FFB's preferred smallholder suppliers.
PALM OIL MILLS
For KLK OLEO, traceability is defined as traceable to POM level for both palm oil and palm kernel oil-based raw materials, excluding internal transfer within KLK OLEO group of companies for the FY2020. The percentages disclosed are tabulated based on the weighted average purchases for palm oil-related origins processed in participating processing centers in China, Europe, Indonesia and Malaysia. Should suppliers provide statements of certain percentage traceable to POM level, this was also used to represent traceability.

Our policy upholds KLK's no deforestation commitment by using the HCSA approach to new oil palm development. Therefore, new developments in regions where KLK operates will undergo integrated HCV and HCS assessments in accordance with the HCSA methodology – HCSA Toolkit version 2.0. Areas eligible for development will be evaluated taking into account high carbon stock areas.
ENVIRONMENT
KLK is committed to reducing GHG emissions in all aspects of plantation development (upstream activities) and KLK OLEO (downstream activities). Measuring relevant GHG emissions data is important as a basis for objective assessment of the impact of our business on the environment, which in turn provides essential guidance for effective mitigation measures to be taken. PLANTATION SEGMENT GHG EMISSION SOURCES
We have initiated two (2) interventions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, namely the installation of biogas plants and filter belt press systems. The biogas plants have reduced greenhouse gas emissions from a POM and its supply bases by 60%. In addition to biogas plants, we have also installed FBPs, a mechanism capable of reducing the total greenhouse gas emissions of a POM by 20%.
Greenhouse Gas Management in Biogas Plants for Renewable Energy in the Plantation Segment Methane gas produced from POM ("POME") effluent is very potent, holding twenty-eight (28) times more heat than carbon dioxide per molecule. We have installed more than one (1) FBP in five (5) of our POMs that have higher capacity. Energy management in KLK OLEO is two-way:. efficiency initiatives that reduce energy consumption and continuous improvement of process systems for greater efficiency and sustainability.
REDUCTION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION (GJ)
We are committed to good energy management, which addresses energy conservation, green energy use and energy efficiency. -products produced by our POMs, such as palm pressed fiber (“PPF”) and kernel shells, are increasingly being used as alternative energy sources. Using PPF as a green energy source brings many benefits as it helps to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.
PLANTATION SEGMENT SCHEDULED WASTE BREAKDOWN
Our water management strategies focus on water use optimization and reduction in water consumption or waste, taking into account the prevailing land conditions, topography and weather challenges (impact of droughts and floods). During the FY, both BOD and COD levels are within the parameters set by the countries' regulations in which we operate. KLK OLEO's solid waste generation intensity during the financial year was 0.012 mt/mt prod vol, higher than last year.
TOTAL WATER USAGE AT PLANTATIONS
Since the COVID-19 pandemic changed lives around the world, single-use plastics are making a comeback. The production of face masks, protective suits, water bottles, visors, takeaway containers, pre-packaged products and home delivery wrapped in single-use plastic bags has grown significantly. During the financial year, KLK launched its Zero Single Use Plastic Campaign to avoid single use plastic.
QUANTITY OF WATER RECYCLED AND REUSED
This is because KLK Emmerich GmbH has realized a project to recover energy by collecting all clean condensate to be used in the boiler house. In order to promote a good recycling habit among employees, our KLK operations centers also make an effort to reduce single-use plastic in the office by stopping the serving of bottled mineral water at meetings, removing single-use plastic utensils in meeting rooms, pantry and the like. . As part of our commitment to supporting women to become more involved in the industry, KLK has established (but not limited to) gender committees and provides facilities such as childcare centers so that employees can work with peace of mind.
WORKPLACE
As part of our RSPO commitments, our policies are aligned with the International Labor Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We had established a Decent Living Wage Task Force last financial year consisting of Senior Management and the Sustainability team. The main purpose of this task force is to discuss the implementation of the new requirement set out in the revised RSPO P&C 2018 - Decent Living Wage.

The pandemic situation has triggered the shift in everyone's paradigm that work processes must be revised for implementation with efficiency and effectiveness.

Similar to our plantation segment, KLK OLEO also provides internal and external training for the improvement of our employees. The health and well-being of our employees and their families remains our top priority. One of our efforts to promote health awareness in the workplace was the organization of a health and wellness week for our employees at our headquarters in Ipoh and at our KLK OLEO manufacturing facilities.

On our plantations, we provide housing with essential amenities such as water, electricity, kitchen with cupboard, medical facilities to our workers and their families. Before movement controls, we were able to organize activities such as hiking, go-karting, yoga, zumba, badminton and swimming lessons. As part of our efforts in improving the social inclusion of the communities surrounding our operational centers, we have initiated a knowledge exchange program aimed at reducing poverty and vulnerability. In addition to providing coffee seeds, we have developed training for farmers to help them increase yields through knowledge sharing. We hope that through the knowledge exchange program, we can create pathways for these underserved groups to enhance their livelihoods by transforming livelihood productivity into commercial productivity in the future.

KLK Food Assistance Program – Pusat Jagaan 1 Malaysia in Ipoh, Perak KLK Food Assistance Program – My Father’s Home in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. KLK distributed food to the nearby community in Belitung, Indonesia. Despite the difficult times, KLK continues to fulfill its share of social obligations and responsibility to support the livelihoods of our surrounding communities. Through KLKCare, the Group has been providing much-needed food and necessities to the communities in need during the MCO period.
REACHING OUT TO MARGINALISED COMMUNITIES
Distribution of food and personal hygiene items to students from the B40 family at PPKI Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gadong in Klang, Selangor. Recognizing the challenges students and teachers may face after returning to schools, KLK has taken the initiative to reach out to 18 identified schools with a majority of students from B40 families in Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Selangor. In addition to providing food and daily necessities, we have not forgotten our frontliners who have worked tirelessly in their goal to combat the spread of COVID-19 as well as our frontline workers who have gone the extra mile to handle the critical tasks of to ensure the supply of raw materials, which are crucial for many of the essential products such as soaps, cleaning agents and food during the pandemic.
BASIC ESSENTIALS BENEFIT 7,800 STUDENTS
Basic items such as hand sanitisers, disinfectants, reusable face masks, hand basins and thermometers were donated to these schools for the benefit of around 7,800 students. The group has incurred a total of RM6.6 million for COVID-19-related expenses, including the purchase of food, personal protective equipment (PPE), test kits, disinfectants, disinfectants and essential medical supplies to curb the spread of the virus. The above outreach programs will be part of KLK's culture and will continue to be initiated in countries and communities where we operate.
