The International Islamic

Malaysia (IIUM)

7983, as

institution

higher leaming by the goyefi,ment

of

Malaysia

in

accortlance

with the

wishes and

initiative of the Pime Minister, Dato' Sei Dr.

Mahathir Moharnad.

Duing

recent years, the uniyersit! has expanded on

all

fronts and is

offeing

courses in Islar,nic Revealed Knowledge anil Human Scicnces, Economics and Management, Laws, Meilicine, atud Engineeri

is dlso planning to dewlop

in

other areas

of

knowledge, The stud.ent population has rapidly grown to over nine

thousand. The

students

and the faculry trul!

represent dn intemational character. The university regards htowledge as a trust Jrom

Allah,

to be ufilised

in

accordance with His

will,

and the quest

of

knovledge

is

regarded as

an

act

of

worship. This

philosophy of

knowledge

and education is based on

the

recommendations

oJ the First World

Conference

on

Musliyt Education held

in

Makkah

in

1977.

THE KULLIYYAH

OF

ISTAMIC REVEALED KNOWLEDCE

AND HUMAN

SCIENCES

The Kulliyyah (Facult!) of Islamic

Revealed. Knowledge and

Human

Sciences was established

in

January 1990

with a

new approach and vision. Many universities

in

the

Muslin

world and elseu)here offer programmes

in

Social Sciences, Islamic Studies

anil

other professional areas. Howeyer,

with

their Jaculties

of Islatnic

Srudies

they still

obseme

a

secular classification

of

knowledge as Islamic and non-Islamic. This

faculty

oJ

IIUM

is

unique in the

sense

that it

combines

in all its

academic programmes the contents

of

Islatnic Reyealeil Knowledge

in

an integrated manner with Human Sciences. While teaching Human Sciences, the subject matter is presented

in

an objectite manner without exclu.ding the Islwnic viet)s on thdt subject. Added to

it

is a content

of

coursework

in

areas of Islamic Revealed Knowledge such as Qur'anic Studies,

Hattth

Studies, Fiqh, Slrah and Islanric History.
