BACKGROUND
Geographic Information System (GIS) is one of the common tools that are widely used especially in government sector to manage natural resources and monitor environmental condition in Malaysia. With the increasing awareness of the GIS technology, many users are searching for the most appropriate GIS software to suit their needs and budget availability. With the current GIS development, users have the option to switch from the traditional commercial GIS software to the free open source GIS software. Depending on the user requirements, this open source GIS software is increasingly popular and widely used worldwide. Besides the fact that it is free, the open source GIS software is normally equipped with all the basic GIS functions, is user friendly and relatively easy to learn.
In this training, participants will be exposed to the open source software called Quantum GIS (QGIS). It is a free software that provides data viewing, editing, and analysis capabilities.
Participants will learn the basic concept of GIS and will have hands-on training in using the QGIS.
