1.0 Background of Study

Solar boat is differentkindof boat than normal standardboat. It is because the engine that runthe boatwill using different type of energy.Solar boat will use electricity rather than popularchoice that is diesel engine.Wecould say that the birth of solar boat comefrom a normal electric boat. Solar boat is very eco-friendly tothe environment than conversional boat since the power source itself cleaner and more renewable than diesel thatwe obtain frompetroleum. Diesel engine alsowill producecarbon dioxide (CO2) that heating upourearth.Ourplanet currentlyfacing up global warming issue that melt the ice southpole that make watersea levelkeeprising each year. Even solar boat isagood way tocombattosave our planet,but it is very hardtobe implement.

1.1 ProblemStatement

The issuethat are that solar boat are very power limited than conversional boat. It is becausethe boatitselfrun witha rechargeable battery that canonly becharge usingthe solar in the daytime. Analysis of its swath hull is veryimportantforsolarboat tohavea more travel distance. Solar boat usually had a catamaran hull, butthis experimentwilluse swathas hull forthe solar boat. Analyze swathis quite difficultsince itsimilarlike

catamaranbut a little bit difference since it torpedoes need tobeunderwater because of this the boat will haveabigdrag.It makes solar boat tohavevery limitedtravel distance.

Computational fluid dynamic “CFD” needto be use properlysince analyze resistanceof swath hull itself couldmake boat designer the it designs soitcanfix itdesign to be more efficient and effective to be use forthe solar boat.

1.2 Objectives

Themainobjectives of this project are:

1) To analyze the resistance that solar boat produces incalm water using CFDSoftware 2) Calculate pressuredistribution ofswathhull.

1.3 Scope ofWork

This research will focus on howanalyze boat that goingtocoverresearch and development inmechanical engineeringfrom marine sidein resistance side using CFD.

I'm goingtouseCFDsoftware torun some simulationthat could replicate closedto real world scenario. The CFD software thatwe will to run simulationto getourdatawill be CFD software. First, I model solar boat by using polycad that is a free cad program specified fordesign our ship.The boatwill needtohavegeneral arrangement, forthis taskI will use free cadtodo it. For analyze our datathat we get from CFD,I'm going to use Microsoft excelto plot the graft from the data. Excel also couldmake my analysis easier to becomparewith eachdata we get.

1.4 Significanceof the Project

Thestudyimportantbecauseweknow that solar boat is very ecofriendly with environment. The research that willdo is veryfundamental for aboat development.

Resistance have a verybig impact onasolar boat. Solarboat is very dependent on the battery and solar paneltorunthe boat. Meanwhile old school boat is very reliable sinceit
