CHAPTER1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 BackgroundofStudy

This project is basically about a production design of amphibious boat that has capabilities to go over land and also the water whether designed with wheels or tracks.It is referred as an amphibious boat forits amphibian quality which canmove both on landand water.Amphibious boat is a concept of boat that having versatile usage. It can be put forward for the commercialization purpose with respect to various applications likein the field of military and rescue operations.

Some ofthe earliest knownamphibious vehicles were amphibious carriages, the invention of which is credited to the notoriousNeapolitan Prince Raimondo di SangroofSansevero (ca. 1750) or Sir Samuel Bentham (1781).The first known self-propelled amphibious vehicle, a steam- powered wheeleddredgingbarge, named the Orukter Amphibolos, was conceived and built by UnitedStates inventor Oliver Evansin 1805,althoughitisdisputed to have successfullytravelled over land or water under its own steam. Amongtheearliestvehicles,there is also an amphibious boat.

The earliest amphibious boat was mostly designed only forthe military purpose and not having a versatile usage.The design of theamphibious boat forthe military purpose is different than the one with the versatile usage as the materials used alsodifferent.Theimprovementofthe production design is needed so that the usercan use theamphibious boat for aversatile usage.Also,the budget forthe production isdifferent due to the materials usedfortheamphibiousboat.So,theselection ofthematerials need to beconsider whether it is suitablefortheproduction or not while keeping theproduction cost within the budget.

1.2 ProblemStatements

The design of the amphibious boat for the military purpose is different than the one with the versatile usage as the materials used also different.The improvementofthe production design is needed so thattheuser can usetheamphibiousboatfor a versatile usage.Also,thebudgetforthe productionis different dueto the materials used for the amphibious boat.So,the selectionof the materials need to be consider whetherit issuitable for the production ornot while keeping the production cost within thebudget.

1.3 Objectives

The main objectivesof this project are:

i. To analyze and design the amphibious boats by using suitable software such as PolyCAD.

ii. To evaluatethe most suitable materials in designing theamphibiousboats.

1.4 Scope of Work

For this project,the analizationofthedesignoftheamphibious boats will be done based on the gathered resources to choose themost suitable designforthe boat.After that,the final drawing willbe draw usingsome suitable softwaressuchas Poly-CAD andSolidwork.

Also,theevaluationofthe materials willbe done by comparingthe properties ofthematerials and the methods used for the materials because the selected materials will affecting the performanceofthe amphibious boat.

1.5 Significance ofStudy

Production design oftheamphibious boat is one of the important aspects forthe performance oftheamphibious boat. Whenthe boat across amedium at high speed,the medium willact on the boat in term of resistance. Air is one ofthemediums of space that provide resistance whenboat travellingathigh speed due to air space densities. This contributes to the consumption of fueluse of forboat. Besides that, thedesign of the boat should have an aura of attractiontopeoplewho see every details of designin termsof creativityand aesthetical value.Selection of materials forthe manufacture of basic materials is importantforensuringthatthe boat is able to float onthe water.

Among the criteria required material for manufacture of the boatis that it must be durable, has good properties ofwaterproof,easy to set up and easy to do the repairs in the event of damage and maintenance work.
