There were 24 new promising inbreds and hybrids identified by the RTWG during its Annual meeting in Manila on February 28, 2014 and with the RVIG in a meeting held in Dumaguete City on June 2 to 3, 2014. These materials were deliberated and approved by the NSIC Technical and Council Secretariat on August 27, 2014 and November 28, 2014, respectively.
Highlights:
• There were 5 inbreds for the irrigated lowland ecosystem (2 from PhilRice and 3 from IRRI); 14 new hybrids (one each from Advanta Phil, Bioseed, and LongPing High-Tech, 8 from Syngenta, 2 from IRRI, and 1 from PhilRice). There were also 5 IRRI inbreds for the adverse ecosystems (2 for saline- prone and 3 for the uplands). These potential varieties were officially accredited and named by the NSIC on November 28, 2014 (Table 17). The RTWG recommendations include their wide or location specific adaptation on the basis of yield in the respective testing sites, outstanding merits, grain quality and their reactions to the prevailing pests (Table 18). Further
fine-tuning is being done through the participatory varietal selection and techno-demonstration cum seed production efforts
