JULY 2023

ASEAN-AUSTRALIA ONE HEALTH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (AUD2.4 MILLION, 2021-2024)

OVERVIEW

Australia is increasing its regional health security engagement through the ASEAN-Australia Health Security Initiative. Under this initiative we use One Health approaches that recognise the health of people, animals and the environment are interlinked. The ASEAN-Australia One Health Fellowship Program is funded by the Australian Government to strengthen One Health capacity and support ASEAN’s health security agenda. It contributes to Australia’s health security commitments outlined in Australia’s

Partnership for Recovery Strategy, aligns with ASEAN’s Comprehensive Recovery Framework and Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Partnership 2020-2024.

The program is providing forty (40) fellowships to ASEAN member state officials across public, animal and environmental health, including expertise in epidemiology, wildlife medicine, health economics, and biosecurity. The fellows will complete an Online Graduate Certificate with Murdoch University over 2.5 years comprising three components: 1) online training, through the delivery of course materials and research training workshops; 2) mentoring program, that links fellows with One Health Murdoch University academics and professional development opportunities, and 3) hands-on research, to develop key considerations for the implementation of One Health principles in their own countries. On completing the program, it is expected fellows will be able to contribute to the region's capacity to respond to future pandemics using One Health approaches.

The first cohort of nineteen (19) fellows has commenced online studies in the academic year of 2022-2023. The second cohort will be identified for 2023.
