GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk. 19:1-10) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

He entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector, and rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner." And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,

"Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost.

REFLECTION:

Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector and was much hated by all the people. Why would Jesus single him out for the honor of staying at his home? Zacchaeus needed God's merciful love and forgiveness. In his encounter with Jesus he found more than he imagined possible. He shows the depth of his repentance by deciding to give half of his goods to the poor and to use the other half for making restitution for fraud. Zacchaeus' testimony included more than words.

His change of heart resulted in a change of life, a change that the whole community could experience as genuine.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, help me to show kindness, mercy, and goodness to all, even to those who cause me ill-will or harm.

Amen.

1. From the Evacuation Drill Committee

GUIDELINES ON EARTHQUAKE DRILL

Please be informed that we will have an earthquake drill on November 21, 2018 at 8:40am. Please be guided by the following instructions:

1. Mr. Reinard Anog, our IS Evacuation Committee Head, together with all the committee members, in coordination with Mr. Roland Bragais and Mr. Ariel Bejasa Jr, DLSL Security and Safety Officers and Mr.

Michael Kasilag, the ISSESO Head will facilitate the earthquake drill.

2. The alarm system will be activated in a minute or so to prompt everybody that there is an earthquake in progress. During this time all occupants of the classroom need to do the “DUCK/DROP, COVER and HOLD”. No one is yet allowed to leave the classrooms or offices while the alarm system is still on.

3. When the siren has stopped, that is the time when everybody should leave the classrooms and offices immediately following the planned route discussed by the GMs with the class presidents/class representatives. Routes will also be posted in the GM’s Bulletin Board

4. Presidents should be the first one on the line to lead the class, bringing the flaglets on the classroom. On the other hand, class secretary and earth marshal will be the last persons to ensure that all classmates had left the room and the lights, fan and ACU are turned off.

5. Students are to leave all valuables in the classroom and the objective is to reach the evacuation site the quickest way possible. Classroom doors must be locked for the security of the students’ belongings. LS and BB Building occupants must be able to leave the building in three 3 minutes!

6. Floor Marshal are designated at each floor of the building to ensure all students and partners have left the building.

7. When forming lines at the oval, all classes must be aligned with the provided orange cone markers.

8. Upon arrival at the evacuation site (oval), the class secretary initially counts his/her classmates to check the attendance and reports it to the president. The president raises the corresponding flaglet: GREEN when the members of the class are complete and RED if otherwise. The president also reports it to the class adviser.

DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION & CONTROL WEEK What Is Drug Addiction?

Addiction is a disease that affects your brain and behavior. When you’re addicted to drugs, you can’t resist the urge to use them, no matter how much harm the drugs may cause.

Drug addiction isn’t about just heroin, cocaine, or other illegal drugs. You can get addicted to alcohol, nicotine, opioid painkillers, and other legal substances.

At first, you may choose to take a drug because you like the way it makes you feel. You may think you can control how much and how often you use it. But over time, drugs change how your brain works. These physical changes can last a long time. They make you lose self-control and can lead you to damaging behaviors.

Addiction vs. Abuse

Drug abuse is when you use legal or illegal substances in ways you shouldn’t. You might take more than the regular dose of pills or use someone else’s prescription. You may abuse drugs to feel good, ease stress, or avoid reality. But usually, you’re able to change your unhealthy habits or stop using altogether.

Addiction is when you can’t stop. Not when it puts your health in danger. Not when it causes financial, emotional, and other problems for you or your loved ones. That urge to get and use drugs can fill up every minute of the day, even if

you want to quit. to be cont…
