GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY Lk 7:36-50) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke,

A Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him, and he entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. Now there was a sinful woman in the city who learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee. Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment, she stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself, “If this man was a prophet, he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. Two people were in debt to a certain creditor; one owed five hundred days’ wages and the other owed fifty. Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him more?” Simon said in reply, “The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven.” He said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon,

“Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little. He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The others at table said to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” But he said, to the woman,

“Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Reflection:

A Pharisee invites Jesus to dinner, perhaps because he wants to decide for himself if he is indeed a prophet as some people claim. And yet he does not treat Jesus as an honored guest in his house, in contrast, a woman of dubious reputation, who is neither a part of the host’s household nor a guest, washes his feet with her tears, kisses them and anoints his head with oil. Jesus takes the opportunity to speak about sin, forgiveness and love. Simon, who is forgiven little consequently manifests little love for Jesus. The woman, who is forgiven her many sins, overwhelms Jesus with her display of love.

Prayer:

Let us pray, Lord, please forgive our sins that grieved Your heart. Amen…

St. John Baptist De La Salle… Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts… Forever!

3. From the GSD and the Evacuation Committee Head

The Grade School Community is the 1st Cluster who will execute the Fire Drill. In preparation for this, please be familiar with the following fire safety tips:

a. Know the primary and alternative exit routes and everyone should be familiar with it.

b. Everyone should recognize and respond to the sound of the smoke detector or other fire alarm

immediately. As soon as you hear the alarm, immediate response is vital for a quick, orderly evacuation.

c. Everyone should exit in an orderly manner to prevent confusion and minimize panic or injury. No one should push their way out on exits.

d. Single file lines are best in controlling traffic to the exits.

e. Be sure to know two (2) ways out. If the primary exit is blocked by smoke or fire, use your second exit.

Point out all emergency exits as you walk through the emergency procedure/ plan.

(3)

f. Always use the stairways to exit multi-storey buildings. Do not use the elevator for it may stop between floors, or go to the fire floor and stop with the doors open.

g. If a room or corridor is filled with smoke, crawl low on your hands and knees to the exit. Take note that the cleaner air is close to the ground, to prevent suffocation.

h. Know what to do if you can’t escape. You’ll need to plan your actions in case immediate escape is impossible. For example, stay in a room with an outside window and always close doors between you and the fire. Think about what you could use: sheets, towels, curtains, or even large pieces of clothing- to stuff around cracks near the door and wave as a signal to rescuers.

i. Know how to open the window to ventilate smoke, but be prepared to close it immediately if it makes the room smokier.

j. Stay low in smoke until you’re rescued.

k. Once you are outside, stay outside and don’t go back until the Evacuation Committee declares that everything is clear and it is safe to go back.

From the GS- Christian Living with Character Education Department

“Daily Meal with God”

The Mass is also a meal. At the Consecration, the bread and wine, through the power of the Holy Spirit, become the Body and Blood of Christ. Not a mere symbol, but Jesus's real flesh and real blood, under the appearance of bread and wine. When we receive Holy Communion, we receive Jesus Himself. He is real food for our soul. He said this very plainly: I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. (John 6:55-56).

What are the benefits of Holy Communion? It strengthens our union with Jesus; He lives within us in a special way. It cleanses us from venial sins. (Mortal sins require forgiveness in Confession.) It gives us grace to avoid sin in the future. It increases our love of God and neighbor.

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

What Are the Health Risks of Overweight and Obesity?

Being overweight or obese isn't a cosmetic problem. These conditions greatly raise your risk for other health problems.

Overweight and Obesity-Related Health Problems in Adults Coronary Heart Disease

As your body mass index rises, so does your risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD is a condition in which a waxy substance called plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries. These arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to your heart.

(7)

Plaque can narrow or block the coronary arteries and reduce blood flow to the heart muscle. This can cause angina or a heart attack. (Angina is chest pain or discomfort.)

Obesity also can lead to heart failure. This is a serious condition in which your heart can't pump enough blood to meet your body's needs.

High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

Your chances of having high blood pressure are greater if you're overweight or obese.

Stroke

Being overweight or obese can lead to a build up of plaque in your arteries. Eventually, an area of plaque can rupture, causing a blood clot to form.

If the clot is close to your brain, it can block the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain and cause a stroke. The risk of having a stroke rises as BMI increases.
