GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk.1:26-38) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!" But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end." And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?" And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
For with God nothing will be impossible." And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.
REFLECTION:
What is the key that can unlock the power and grace of God's kingdom in our personal lives? Faith and obedience for sure! When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they immediately experienced the consequence of their action - separation from the God who loved them. God in his mercy promised them a Redeemer who would pay the price for their sin and the sin of the world. We see the marvelous unfolding of God's plan of redemption in the events leading up to the Incarnation, the birth of the Messiah. Mary's prompt response of "yes" to the divine message is a model of faith for all believers. She was full of grace because she trusted that what God said was true and would be fulfilled.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help me to live a grace-filled life as Mary did by believing in your promises and by giving you my unqualified "yes" to your will and to your plan for my life. Amen.
Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

2 FROM THE OVCA – INTEGRATED SCHOOL PRINCIPAL:
1. Clarifications on the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2019
“In this year’s celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception we are faced with the confusion whether its transfer on December 9 because December 8 this year is the Second Sunday of Advent, carries with it also the Holyday of Obligation on December 9? It must be clear that it is the liturgical celebration of the Immaculate Conception that is transferred to December 9 and not the Holyday of Obligation which is kept on December 8.
Therefore, the faithful who go to mass on December 8 fulfill their Holyday of Obligation both for the Second Sunday of Advent and of the Immaculate Conception. But the faithful are encouraged to attend Mass on December 9 as a manifestation of their deep filial devotion to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the Patroness of the Philippines.” - Rev. Fr. Genaro “Genie” Diwa, SLL, Executive Secretary, CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Liturgy on the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. (Excerpts from Cool Catholics)

FROM THE INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:
Effects of Polio
The effects of post-polio infection include:
• Onset of progressive muscular weakness in muscles affected during the original infection. However, other muscles that seem not to be affected during the original infection may also be affected.
• Joint pain and fatigue
• Memory and concentration levels may be adversely affected
• In fewer incidences, muscles may become weakened (atrophy)
• Difficulty swallowing and extended periods of fatigue Complications
Paralytic polio can cause severe physical disabilities due to muscle paralysis and deformities of the hips, ankles and feet.
Polio can also cause serious complications to other organs such as the lungs, intestines, kidneys and heart.
Treatment
There is no cure for polio; it can only be prevented by vaccination. Treatment of symptoms is all that can be done for the polio sufferer. For instance, antibiotics are used to treat urinary tract infections. Bethanechol is used to reduce urine retention. Analgesics are used to reduce headaches and muscle pain.
Prevention
The most effective way to prevent the disease is getting vaccinated. Immunization against polio is recommended for all children from three to 18 months of age. Three booster doses should be given to all children up to 12 years of age.
It is also important to practice good personal hygiene to reduce the spread of the polio virus.
