THE HOLY GOSPEL (Lk 18:35-43) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke,

As Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging, and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!” Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He replied, “Lord, please let me see.” Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.” He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God.

Reflections:

Jesus asked the blind man, “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus is asking us today the same question. We are needy beings. We cannot survive by ourselves alone. Our existence is caused not by ourselves but by God and He alone sustains us. Therefore, we need God; He gives us what we need. Today, what do you need most? But before you answer, be careful because you might request for something you don’t really need. A blind man obviously and truly need the gift of sight. May you identify today what you really need and not what you just want; and pray to him humbly.

Prayer:

Let us pray,

God, our Father, quench our thirst, satisfy our hunger, and purify our soul. Amen.

St. John Baptist De La Salle…Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts…Forever!

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week

Some people’s bodies respond to the effects of alcohol and drugs differently. If you have a family history of alcoholism or addiction, you are four times more likely to develop a problem. So then, as a young person, what can you do to protect yourself and reduce the risk of alcohol and drug problems? Here are Ten Tips for Prevention--Youth:

1. Don’t Be Afraid to Say No: Sometimes, our fear of negative reaction from our friends, or others we don’t even know, keeps us from doing what we know is right. Real simple, it may seem like “everyone is doing it,” but they are not. Don’t let someone else make your decisions for you. If someone is pressuring you to do something that's not right for you, you have the right to say no, the right not to give a reason why, and the right to just walk away.

2. Connect With Your Friends and Avoid Negative Peer Pressure: Pay attention to who you are hanging out with. If you are hanging out with a group in which the majority of kids are drinking alcohol or using drugs to get high, you may want to think about making some new friends. You may be headed toward an alcohol and drug problem if you continue to hang around others who routinely drink alcohol, smoke marijuana, abuse prescription drugs or use illegal drugs. You don't have to go along to get along.
