GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk. 4:16-30) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was, on the Sabbath day. And he stood up to read; and there was given to him the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened the book and found the place where it was written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." And all spoke well of him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"

And he said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, `Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here also in your own country.'" And he said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country. But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land; and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian."

When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. And they rose up and put him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong. But passing through the midst of them he went away.

REFLECTION:

Today’s Gospel speaks about Jesus’ visit to Nazareth and the presentation of his program to the people of the Synagogue. In the first moment the people were admired. But, immediately, when they become aware that Jesus wants to accept all, without excluding anyone, people rebel and want to kill him. Do we accept everybody or do we exclude some? Which are the reasons which lead us to exclude certain persons?

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, fill me with the joy of the Gospel and inflame my heart with love and zeal for you and for your will. Amen.

GUIDELINES ON EARTHQUAKE DRILL

We would like to remind everyone that there will be an earthquake drill on September 5, 2018 at 8:40am. Please be guided by the following instructions:

1. Mr. Reinard Anog, our IS Evacuation Committee Head, together with all the committee members, in coordination with Mr. Roland Bragais and Mr. Ariel Bejasa Jr, DLSL Security and Safety Officers and Mr.

Michael Kasilag, the ISSESO Head will facilitate the earthquake drill.

2. The alarm system will be activated in a minute or so to prompt everybody that there is an earthquake in progress. During this time all occupants of the classroom need to do the “DROP, COVER and HOLD”. No one is yet allowed to leave the classrooms or offices while the alarm system is still on.

3. When the siren has stopped, that is the time when everybody should leave the classrooms and offices immediately following the planned route to be discussed by the GMs with the class presidents/class representatives.

4. Presidents should be the first one on the line to lead the class, bringing the flaglets in the classroom. On the other hand, class secretary and earth marshal will be the last persons, to ensure that all classmates had left the room and the lights, fan and ACU are turned off.

5. Students are to leave all valuables in the classroom and the objective is to reach the evacuation site the quickest way possible. Classroom doors must be locked for the security of the students’ belongings. LS and BB Building occupants must be able to leave the building in three (3) minutes!

6. Floor Marshals are designated at each floor of the building to ensure all students and partners have left the building.

7. When forming lines at the oval, all classes must be aligned with the provided orange cone markers.

8. Upon arrival at the evacuation site (oval), the class secretary initially counts his/her classmate to check the attendance and reports it to the president. The president raises the corresponding flaglet: GREEN when the members of the class are complete and RED if otherwise. The president also reports it to the class adviser.

9. The adviser reports it to their GM; the GM reports it to the AP (Building Marshal) and the AP reports it to the Principal.

10. In case of lost students, the GM reports it to the ISSESO to conduct search and rescue.

11. It is important that everybody will participate in the execution of the drill seriously. Homeroom adviser of each class must be in front of the line upon reaching the evacuation site.

12. Specific tasks are delegated to the following:

a. LACs have to monitor the positioning of the classes in the oval following the section labels posted on the fence fronting the Archbishop Palace.

b. Security personnel are to declare ‘all clear’ after checking that everyone has moved out of the hall. They can also check on anybody who is not taking the drill seriously.

c. GSD/ISSESO has to require the participation of the canteen personnel and all the parents inside the campus.

d. The Principal and the IS Evacuation Committee Head are to call the roll of the students by level and will give other instructions.

e. Class President will help the teacher in leading the class to the designated route.

f. Assigned time keeper will announce the length of time spent evacuating BB and LS building respectively and Mr. Reinard Anog for the overall time of the drill.

g. Office Heads and Guidance Counselors will assist the preschool teachers in leading the pupils to the oval.

h. Clinic staff and EMT will be deployed to give first aid to those who need assistance

FROM THE INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

September 3, 2018

NATIONAL EPILEPSY AWARENESS WEEK

Epilepsy is a common condition of the brain in which a person has a tendency to have recurrent unprovoked seizures.

Approximately 70 percent of people with epilepsy gain control of their seizures with medication. People who continue to have seizures are more vulnerable to the potential risks associated with seizures, especially when seizures occur without warning and impair awareness.

Epilepsy, like other long-term conditions such as asthma or diabetes, comes with certain risks. If left unchecked these can become very serious.

Seizure-related risks are higher when people have poorly controlled seizures. Good seizure control is the first step in reducing seizure-related risks.

Seizures can sometimes lead to injuries or falls, and they can occasionally be more serious – even contributing to, or causing, death. Different types of seizures carry different risks.

Your risk level depends on the type of seizures you have, and your lifestyle. For instance, poorly controlled tonic-clonic seizures pose the highest safety risk, and if you take part in activities such as mountain climbing, this risk is increased.

Life is never risk-free, but taking positive action to reduce your seizures, thinking about risks specific to you and discussing seizure management with your doctor are a start to reducing some of your seizure-related risks.
