This study was conducted to determine the relationship between nationality, attifude towards reading and reading comprehension
of middle school and high school
studentsof
WestfieldsInternational School
in
AngelesCity
duringthe
School Year 20l5-24rc. The researcher made use of correlational method and discriminant analysisin
establishing the connection among the variablesbeing
investigated.After gathering analping
and interpretingthe data it was confirmed in this study
that nationality could be used asa
grouping variablefor
students' cognitive and conative attitude torrards reading aswell
as their reading comprehension.It was also
proventhat
thereis
no significant difference in the affective attitude towards readingof the
participating studentswhich
clearly shows that nationality could not be used as a grouping variable for the affective domain of sfudents' attitude towards reading-Reading is known to be an important factor in the academic success of an individual
(Irvey
& Polirstock,2011).
It is a skill that is defined as the active construction of meaningbased on what is being read and the background knowledge of the reader (Bainbridge
&
Heydon, 2013). Therefore, the ultimate goal of this component of language is
comprehension or understanding. This receptive macro skill does not end with the mere rrcitation or decoding ofwords.
