To capacitate teachers in the InFLex design and delivery, a six- week virtual MOLE training was provided for them by the MSU-IIT Center for e-Learning (MICeL).

The training covered syllabus preparation, learner’s guide development, fostering engagement, creating a video lecture, and MOLE as support for assessment.

Prior to the training, teachers were given their academic load for the first semester so they can start preparing an InFlex delivery of their assigned subjects to teach.

According to the guidelines, each college was also expected to create an InFlex quality assurance team to ensure the quality of course materials.

Aside from MOLE, the guidelines allowed faculty members to also use other available learning tools to support it such as

Google classroom, MSU-IIT SMS blast, Facebook, and phone call or video conferencing. Tutorials on the use of the different tools to support learning were made available on the website of MICeL.

To support research activities during classes, teachers and students can also access the Institute’s e-library, curated and maintained by the Office of the Institute Library.

As the COVID-19 pandemic runs its course, higher education institutions like MSU-IIT are implementing certain measures to limit the number of individuals entering the campus.

Some of these measures are the establishment of a skeleton workforce, rotational reporting of employees, and adoption of the work from home arrangement.

The online enrollment and InFLex classes are added measures to control and contain the spread of COVID-19 during the opening of the first semester of the academic year.

Institute deploys e-resources for AY 2020-2021 enrollment

Michelle Jeanne Caracut, OC/OPI

With the decision to pursue innovative flexible teaching and learning (InFlex) delivery of lessons that saw the first semester of AY 2020-2021 opening in September, MSU-IIT employed its e-resources so students did not have to be physically present in the campus during enrollment.

The enrollment period that covered the whole month of July utilized the MSU-IIT Intelligent Course Adviser (MICA) and the electronic School Management System (eSMS).

MICA and eSMS are enrollment apps designed by the Institute’s Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT).

MICA is an AI-based self-service that delivers effortless enrollment experience to IIT students.

eSMS is an integrated student records management system that integrates key activities from admission, course scheduling, registration/enrollment, assessment, billing, payments, and students records management.

It is a client-server system which makes use of open-source software on its server side, thus making its implementation very affordable even for small tertiary schools.

This system has been used in MSU-IIT since 2001.

The Institute set the guidelines for enrollment and class management for the first semester of AY 2020-2021 in Special Order No. 00835-IIT, Series of 2020 that it issued on June 9, 2020.

Enrollment for freshmen who were MSU-SASE qualifiers started on July 1, after receipt of required documents submitted by confirmed students to the Office of Admissions and Scholarship Administration.
