Abstract
Majority of women diagnosed
with
ovarian cancer are on the later stage since symptoms of ovarian cancer are often non-specific and are often acceptedby
women as cornmon changes relatedwith
aging, menopawe and previous pregnancies. Lack of awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms andrisk
factors may affectthe
early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Thus, the study aims to determine the awareness of women ages 40 years old and above regarding the risk factors and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Descriptive study was usedand convenience sampling
in
determiningthe
participants. One hundred women (ages 4O years old and above) participatedin
thesttrdy. They completed the self-completion
questionnaire containinga
seriesof
open-ended questionswhich
hassix
zub sections. The results showedthat the
awarenessof
womenwith
ovarian cancer symptoms and risk factors in the general population is low. Awareness and recognition of the symptoms and risk factorsof
ovarian cancer could leadto
earlier diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Women should be well informed and educatedwith
the specific information on symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer by the health care professionals.KEYWORDS:
