Abstract

Majority of women diagnosed

with

ovarian cancer are on the later stage since symptoms of ovarian cancer are often non-specific and are often accepted

by

women as cornmon changes related

with

aging, menopawe and previous pregnancies. Lack of awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms and

risk

factors may affect

the

early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Thus, the study aims to determine the awareness of women ages 40 years old and above regarding the risk factors and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Descriptive study was used

and convenience sampling

in

determining

the

participants. One hundred women (ages 4O years old and above) participated

in

the

sttrdy. They completed the self-completion

questionnaire containing

a

series

of

open-ended questions

which

has

six

zub sections. The results showed

that the

awareness

of

women

with

ovarian cancer symptoms and risk factors in the general population is low. Awareness and recognition of the symptoms and risk factors

of

ovarian cancer could lead

to

earlier diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Women should be well informed and educated

with

the specific information on symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer by the health care professionals.
