JJJJJane Marane Marane Marane Marane Maren Den Den Den Den DASAL ASAL ASAL ASAL ASAL is taking up her MA in Philippine Studies at the Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, where she works as a University Research Associate and as an editorial associate for Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspectives on Asia. Her research interests include indigenous studies, particularly on the Northern Philippines and its festivals.

David GOWEY is a doctoral student in sociocultural anthropology at Arizona State University, where he recently earned his Master's degree.

He previously earned his Bachelor's degree in Anthropology at Northern Arizona University. His research focuses on the Panay Bukidnon sugidanon chants and related topics such as Southeast Asian history, ethnic identity construction, Austronesian linguistics, and ethnopedagogy.

Felipe JOCANOelipe JOCANOelipe JOCANOelipe JOCANOelipe JOCANO,,,,, Jr Jr Jr Jr... is a member of the faculty of the Department Jr of Anthropology, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City. His areas of interest include the anthropology of martial arts as body practice, with an emphasis on Filipino martial arts; indigenous cultures, medical anthropology; science, technology and society (STS); the anthropology of popular culture and of the body in local cultural contexts; the relationship of culture and business;

culture, religious thought and practice; and economic anthropology. In addition, Prof. Jocano also lectures for the Foreign Service Institute and other programs for the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Filipino culture and indigenous groups. He conducts didactics sessions for first- year residents of the Department of Psychiatry, UP-PGH focusing on culture and psychiatry. Prof. Jocano also conducts seminars and workshops on the relevance of Filipino culture and value system to interested corporate entities. In addition, he also teaches martial arts, focusing on Filipino, Chinese and indigenous (Mindanao) martial arts.

Journal of Critical Perspectives on Asia. An alumni of the Asian Center, UP Diliman, he specialized on West Asia for this masters degree and is the author of the journal article, “Between Philippine Studies and Filipino- American Studies: The Transpacific as Area and the Transformation of Area Studies in the 21st Century” and “Area Studies in a Time of Nationalism: Dr. Josefa Saniel and Japanese Studies in the 1960s.”

Paul Raul Raul Raul Raul RODELL,ODELL,ODELL,ODELL,ODELL, PhD is Professor of History at Georgia Southern University, he has published Culture and Customs of the Philippines (2002) and has numerous articles and book chapters on the Philippines, Southeast Asia and contemporary Islam. He is currently planning a volume on the history of Islam in Southeast Asia. He also serves as the treasurer for the Association of Global South Studies.

Carololololyn SOBRITolyn SOBRITyn SOBRITyn SOBRITCHEAyn SOBRITCHEACHEACHEACHEA, PhD is the former dean of the Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman. A former student of Dr. F.

Landa Jocano, she obtained her PhD in Anthropology in 1987, her M.A.

in Asian Studies in 1973, and her B.A. Anthropology in 1968. Dr.

Sobritchea currently serves as a Professorial Lecturer of the UP Open University and Chairperson of the CHED Technical Panel on Gender and Women’s Studies. The director of the UP Center for Women’s Studies from 2000 to 2007, she has worked and/or headed various gender advocacy projects and research studies. Her publications include

“Promoting Gender Equality: Opportunities and Challenges” (2011) and

“Health of Our Heroes: Qualitative Study on Access to Sexual and Reproductive health Services and Information of Women Migrant Domestic Workers” (2010).

Christa WIRWIRWIRWIRWIRTHTHTHTHTH, PhD is an Associate Professor of history (1750- Present) at the Institute for Religion, Philosophy, and History at the University of Agder in Norway. She conducts research on the history of the United States and its transnational entanglements. The author of the book, “Memories of Belonging: Descendants of Italian Migrants to the United States, 1884-Present,” Dr. Wirth is working on a book on the history of anthropologists who conducted research between Chicago and Manila during the Cold War. She received her PhD from the University of Zurich in Switzerland.
