THE HOLY GOSPEL (Lk 14:15-24) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke,

One of Jesus’ fellow guests said to him, “Blessed is the one who will dine in the kingdom of God.” He replied to him, “A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many. When the time for the dinner came, he dispatched his servant to say to those invited, ‘Come, everything is now ready.’ But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves. The first said to him,

‘I have purchased a field and must go to examine it; I ask you, consider me excused.’ And another said, ‘ I have purchased five yoke of oxen and am on my way to evaluate them; I ask you, consider me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have just married a woman, and therefore I cannot come.’ The servant went and reported this to his master. Then the master of the house in a rage commanded his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in here the poor and crippled, the blind and the lame.’ The servant reported, ‘Sir, your orders have been carried out and still there is room.’

The master then ordered the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedgerows and make people come in that my home may be filled. For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.’ “

Reflections:

When God knocks our hearts, He always expects us to respond. Our Gospel for today reminds us that in every event of our life, there is always a space for change. No matter who you are, our Lord offers a way to recognize His loving presence, which is an expression of His love for all of us.

Prayer:

Let us Pray….

Lord God, lead us always to goodness, awake our stubborn hearts and inspired us with your guidance. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

St. John Baptist De La Salle …… Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our Hearts…Forever!

Rev. Francis Peffley

What is prayer? Prayer is talking to God, lifting our hearts and minds to God. "Prayer is the key of Heaven." - St.

Augustine

MISSION VISION

“To be a sign of faith as an excellent educational institution, sharing in the Lasallian mission of teaching minds, touching hearts and transforming lives.”

(2)

2 We pray so that we can go to Heaven. St. Augustine says: "As our body cannot live without nourishment, so our soul cannot spiritually be kept alive without prayer." St. Alphonsus says: "He who prays, is saved; he who prays not, is damned!" Prayer is powerful (Jam.5: 16-18, 2 Kings 20:1-6).

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Smoking and COPD

If you smoke, the single most important treatment for COPD is to stop smoking. Giving up will stop the on-going damage to your airways caused by cigarette smoke. It is the most important treatment to reduce the chance of your condition becoming worse.

(3)

3 It also means the tiny hairs in your airways can work properly, clearing mucus, bacteria and poisonous chemicals that accumulate in your lungs. Nicotine replacement therapies and stop smoking medications can also be very effective in helping you give up for good.

Diet and COPD

When you have a lung condition, it is important to eat well to prevent infections and keep your lungs healthy. It is also essential to make sure you are the correct weight. Your doctor can help you to work out what your healthy weight should be. If you are overweight it will be harder for you to breathe and move around.

However, some people with COPD can lose too much weight because eating makes them feel breathless, or it becomes more difficult to shop and prepare meals. If you are underweight, or you are putting on too much weight, speak to your GP who can give you advice or refer you to a dietician for more support.
