Caring is a specialized ethical agreement that nursing profession has with the people to sustain in situations where it may be vulnerable. Caring is therefore significant to the nursing practice (Royal College
of Nursing
2002).It is
embodiedby
nurses andis
articulatedin
their person-to-person responsiveness. This means that caring is presented in the manner of behaving in social circumstances such as nurse-patient interaction (Orem, 2001).During the interaction
with
patients, nurses demonstrate caringin
tangible acts commonly referred to as caring behaviors (Delaune&
[,ander, 20fl}). Caring behaviors can be manifested through thefive
dimensionsof
respectful deferenceto
others, assuranceof
human preSence, positive connectedness, professional knowledge, and skill and attentiveness to the other's experience (Guidroa Burnfield-Geimer, Clark&
Je:L 2010). These can furdrcr be exhibited by being ready to cater to the needs of the patients, monitoring their prcgnosis, listeningto
thenr, and promoting optimism and pleasant disposition. Caring behavior, as an overt action, migbt be influenced by certain internal and external factors. Concrete examplesof
these extemal factors are organizational commifrnenfjob
satisfaction and civility.
