UP GAWAD TANDANG SORA HONORS

FEMALE MANOBO TRIBAL LEADER

The 2017 awardee, Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay, is a renowned warrior of the god Talain and the only female chief in the history of the Manobo tribe to date. Since 1994, Bai Bibyaon has been the leader of the Lumad struggle in communities in the Pantaron area. She also ordered them to help the Lumads fight to protect their ancestral domain.

Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay, is the renowned warrior woman of Talaingod, and the only female chieftain in history. My first day of class experience may be the same for some of the freshmen and graduate students who were new to college. It wasn't a walk in the park because writing is not my cup of tea.

I was exposed to the realities of life, that there are more pressing issues in the country that need to be addressed.

Professional Growth

The revisions to the curriculum had been necessary in view of the changing landscape of community development in relation to national and global trends, as well as the more diverse student population. The DCD is proud of its Field Instruction (FI) program, which exemplifies the CSWCD's claim that “Ang paki-kipamuhay sa mga komunidad ang kaluluwa ng Kolehiyo.”. Ferrer served as director of the Office of Community Relations until May 2016 and served as acting director of the Human Resource and Development Office (HRDO) until March 2017; prof.

Lenore Polotan-Dela Cruz is the Director of the Office of Extension Coordination, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development; and prof. As part of CSWCD's golden jubilee celebrations, DSD sponsored the first Social Development Conference with the theme "Defining the Terrain, Exploring Pathways" last May 17, 2017. To come up with an agenda for the improvement of social development as a discipline to be shared with educational institutions V. Leni Robredo was the keynote speaker for the conference. The committee is composed of the heads of all academic units, the Student Records Evaluator and the College Secretary.

The task of the committee is to coordinate the referral of students in need of psychosocial support to affected UP units and other service providers. Sharing Information About Academic Policies and Procedures Many of the problems associated with academic procedures and program advising can be managed if adequate information is disseminated effectively to all involved. Due to the college's renovation, the SRO was temporarily moved to the college secretary's office.

As part of the CSWCD family, the SRO is also engaged in the activities and concerns of the College such as strategic planning, wellness program, staff development, social activities and even advocacy on development and employee issues.

Ang ikalawang yugto ng pagkukumpuni ng gusali ng CSWCD ay kinabibilangan ng pagsasaayos ng silid-aklatan, pakpak ng mga guro at ng Bulwagang Tandang Sora. Ang muling pagsasaayos ay alinsunod sa mga rekomendasyon ng structural assessment ng gusali ng CSWCD noong 2016. Nakiisa ang mga magsasaka sa buong CSWCD sa pagkilos sa unang State of the Union Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, upang iharap sa Pangulo ang pangunahing mga kahilingan para sa pagkamit ng kanilang mga karapatan, kasama ang.

Palma is fondly referred to at the college and was a faculty member of the Department of Social Work for 21 years. She was also the Chair of the Technical Committee on Social Work of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). She was part of the CHED committee that developed the guidelines and criteria of the Centers of Excellence (COE) / Centers of Development (COD), which are awarded to outstanding social work schools in the country.

Palma's appointment as a member of the PRC Social Work Council is further evidence of the valuable contributions she has made to the development of the profession.

Palma, the former faculty of the UP-CSWCD, was appointed by pres. Before joining the academy, she worked for sixteen years in the Medical Social Service Unit at UP-Philippine General Hospital, first as a medical social worker and then as a supervisor. She led interagency committees at the UP-PGH regarding the improvement of the social service system in hospital settings.

As an educator, she has taught social work courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. She also served as a trainer and resource person for board review classes for social work graduates for various colleges and universities nationwide. Her contribution to social work education also included leadership in the National Association of Social Work Education, Inc. NAS-WEI) and the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) included.

The NASWEI is an organization that oversees the quality of social work education in the country and ensures that its standard and quality is equal to other schools in Asia and worldwide.

Outside of the academy, she was also employed as a consultant by government agencies and non-governmental organizations for various programs and projects related to mentally disabled patients, street children and orthopedic disabled people, among others.

CSWCD HOSTS LUMADS FROM SOUTHERN MINDANAO REGION

She has also served as the moderator of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of a private university. His areas of interest include the conflict and peace process in Mindanao, neoliberalism and agrarian reform, land use conversion, large-scale land acquisition (LSLA), and neoliberalism and social work. His work with corporate-led foundations and international development agencies enables him to provide detailed and customized capacity building services in the areas of multi-stakeholder poverty reduction programming and strategies, information communication technology (ICT), integration for development, value chain -based livelihoods, corporate social responsibility (CSR), NGO Board Management and Organizational Development (OD).

His areas of interest include program and project development, strategy, monitoring and evaluation; integration of information, communication technology (ICT) into programs (eg use of mobile phones for development purposes such as financial inclusion, citizen participation and responsive governance); Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR); strategy and programming; voluntary program development and management (VPDM); human resource management (HRM). Glens is an instructor with direct social work practice in the private and public sectors. Her areas of interest include early childhood education, child welfare, community education and social administration.

Her areas of interest include gender and development, feminism and community practice in social work.

New Faces

She worked at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as a technical staff; with international organizations as CEO/Director/Manager; and as an independent consultant. Master of Public Affairs, Major in Agrarian and Rural Development Studies College of Public Affairs and Development, UP Los Banos. Before joining the faculty as an assistant professor in 2016, Jake was involved in sectoral organizing in the context of grassroots movement formation.

He worked as an organizer with youth and students, fishermen, farmers, urban poor and indigenous peoples in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Master of Family Life and Child Development at UP College of Home Economics (ongoing). She has also done supervisory work in a government-run social security program with poor urban families.

Nancy is an Assistant Professor whose work has focused primarily on women's human rights in various settings: abuse of women in intimate relationships, organizing and political participation.

Department of Social Work

Her areas of interest include working with individuals, families and groups, child welfare - home child care, child protection, children in conflict with the law, local and international adoptions. Social Work, UP CSWCD Master of Social Work, UP CSWCD Doctor of Social Development (in progress). Her areas of interest are children's rights, case management, development and project management, organizational development, gender and development, community organizing, mentoring, peacebuilding and human rights.

Bachelor of Social Work, with concentration in Clinical Social Work, UP CSWCD Ph.D in Family Studies, College of Arts and Sciences at Miriam College (ongoing). Jowima or "Jowi" brings to UP more than two decades of previous experience as a social worker and administrator in private higher education institutions and practicing in various contexts: industry, child and youth care and protection in New Zealand, and peace and development initiatives in the Philippines. Her passion for the use of creative modalities in her social work practice is an ongoing study towards developing a uniquely Philippine social work framework for practice.

Her areas of interest include Social Work education, creative modalities in Social Work, human rights, peace and development, counseling.

Department of Community Development

Jowi is an active accreditor of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). He is the author of short stories in Filipino that have been awarded and published in literary and academic publications of the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University. She joined the college in August 2015 as an assistant professor in the Department of Community Development.

She demonstrated a deep love for teaching as a full professor in the Department of Community Development, an associate professor in the Department of Women's and Development Studies, and a lecturer in the Social Development Ph.D. At the University of the Philippines, Baguio, she began teaching in the summer of 1968 in the Department of Anthropology. In the same year, she transferred to the University of the Philippines, Diliman, and remained in the anthropology department until 1969.

She joined the Department of Community Development as an assistant professor at the UP College of Social Work and Community Development.
