VII. METALS AND ENGINEERING SECTOR

Call Rationale

The Metals and Engineering sector would address the needs, gaps, and problems of the local industry under its four (4) sub-sectors namely: Machining and Fabrication, Metal Casting, Tool and Die and Surface Engineering identified during the PCIEERD Metals and Engineering Road mapping session with the regions: NCR, CAR, I, II, III, IVA, IVB, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII and CARAGA including the assessment of PCIEERD project managers.

Call Objective

To enjoin qualified local institutions, engineers and scientists and individuals to take new advances in doing R&D in designing metal products/equipment that will really leap the Metals Industry from where it is now and gear up for IR4.0.

Call Scope

1. Machining and Fabrication Sector (Maximum of 20 projects amounting to Php 1.020B with maximum duration of 3 years)

• R&D Design and fabrication of innovative, cost effective and appropriate Machinery, Parts and Engineered Products applicable to the needs of different sectors ((e.g., Food industry, process industry, Agri-industry, aerospace, etc.)

• R&D in Physical Metrology; Realization of S.I. Units (e.g. Kilogram, Ampere, Meter, Kelvin, Second, Candela)

• Capability Building for Certification for Aerospace Standards (e.g., gear manufacturing, aerospace surface treatment, manufacturing accreditation: AS9100 & NADCAP, etc.)

• Product development of aerospace parts thru metal applications needed by the local aerospace industries.

• Design and development of machines/equipment thru mechatronics & robotics applications for shop automation

• Establishment of facilities (e.g., micro machining, metal testing and innovation) capable of delivering enhanced metal & product services for the needs of other industries (e.g., medical components, aerospace, process, etc.)

2. Metal Casting Sector (Maximum of 8 projects amounting to Php170M with maximum duration of 3 years)

• R&D on Advanced Metal casting and Metal Injection Technologies for Various Applications

• R&D on Materials and Metallurgy Technologies for Various Applications (e.g, aluminum & magnesium casting w/corrosion, high quality ductile iron, high alloy steel casting, etc.)

• Development of casted machine tools for the needs of manufacturing industries (e.g., SMEs and MSMEs)

• Establishment of facility (e.g.,upgraded heat treatment) capable of delivering enhanced metal & product services for the needs of other industries (e.g., medical components, aerospace, process, etc.)

3. Tool and Die Sector (Maximum of 8 projects amounting to Php80M with maximum duration of 3 years)

• Design and development of innovative, cost-effective and price competitive die and molds forvarious applications (e.g., food industries, aerospace, medical, marine industries, handicraft, automotive, etc.)

4. Surface Engineering Sector (Maximum of 4 projects amounting to Php40M with maximum duration of 3 years)

• R&D for Metal and Composite Etching or Photo Etching

• Design and development of innovative, cost-effective and price competitive metal coating, polishing/finishing for various applications (e.g., rubber coating, mirror finishing, etc.)

Specifically, and clearly identify (possibly quantify) these NSDB-ME in the proposal: Need, Solution, Differentiation (show this in a matrix), Benefits, Maintenance and repair and service commitment and economically viable
