The design of the research is experimental. It can be concluded that this research collect quantitative data and uses statistical formula to measure whether or not there is a significant difference between the reading ability of descriptive text of the seventh grade students of SMP 1 Jati Kudus taught by and without by pictorial poster in the academic year 2011/2012. Meanwhile. The design of experiment that is used in this research is experiment research by using control group. The writer uses the objective test as instrument of the research. The form of the test is multiple choices and it consists of 40 items.

The result of the research shows that the writing ability of Recount text of the tenth grade students of MA Madarijul Huda Kembang Dukuhseti Pati in academic year 2011/2012 taught by using Portfolio is categorized to be good. It is presented with the highest score is 95 the lowest score is 65, mean is 77, 91, and standard deviation is 10, 85. On the other hand, the reading ability of Recount text of the tenth grade students of MA Madarijul Huda Kembang Dukuhseti Pati in academic year 2012/2013 taught by using Group Project is categorized to be Fair. It is presented with the highest score is 84, the lowest score is 55, mean is 67, 00 and standard deviation is 10, 17. And t-table gained from the level of significant 0.05, (df) = (N 1 +N 2 -2) = (22+22-2) = 42 is 2.03 . The result of the calculation is t-observation

Based on data analysis, it is found that the reading comprehension of descriptive text before they got Crazy Professor Reading Game is low. While the ability to read students' understanding of descriptive text after they got Crazy Professor Reading Game is classified as good. T-test calculations show to>tt. The calculation of t-observation shows 5.55 is higher than t-table 2.042 with a significant level of 0.05. This means that there are significant differences between students' mastery of reading comprehension Eighth Grade Students of SMP NU AL MA’RUF Kudus who taught before and after being taught by using the Crazy Professor Reading Game.

The method used in this research is experimental design. This research took place at MTs. Negeri Kudus. The target population of this research is the eighth grade students of MTs. Negeri Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 and the sample of this research is 34 students from Class H. The researcher gave test (reading test) to measure the student’s ability of reading recount text. The instrument used to collect the data is written test that contents 30 multiple choice test. All of students are given pre-test, the test which is given before using quantum reading, and after they get the treatment, the research continues giving post-test.

STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN ANSWERING OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS IN READING COMPREHENSION TEST: A CASE STUDY AT THE TEN GRADE STUDENTS OF PONPES NURUL HARAMAIN NW PUTRI NARMADA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 20172018

The thesis is aimed to find out the students‟ difficulties in answering open -ended questions and some factors that contributes to the difficulties. This is a case study using descriptive qualitative method that was conducted at Ponpes Nurul Haramain NW Putri Narmada. The population of this study is all of the ten grade students and the sample was X 1 Class which consists of 25 students that was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, two kinds of instruments were used, those were reading tests that are taken from a textbook for senior high school. The book is a supplementary reference of the English teacher at Ponpes Nurul Haramain NW Putri Narmada and is owned only by them. The result of the test showed that students‟ mean score was 52 which qualitatively means Poor. Students‟ difficulties in answering open-ended questions were shown in percentage as follows; 25.8% of the students faced difficulties in establishing appropriate title, 34.4% students faced difficulties in determining main idea and at the same percentage 34.4 % of the students faced difficulties while asked about specific information and at last, 5.4% of the students faced difficulties in determining moral values of the text. The students‟ responses to the given questionnaire were categorized into; lack of motivation or interest, vocabulary mastery, students‟ background knowledge and students‟ environment.

This is a quantitative research. The method of the research is experimental. This design of the research is the experimental method which uses pretest and posttest. The population is the eight grade students of SMP 02 Trangkil Pati in the academic year 2011/2012. The total number of the population is 222 students. That divided into six classes. There are for class A until class F. The sample is taken one class from the population by using cluster random sampling through lottery. The data were taken from the written test. After the students were given the pretest, they were given the treatment for six meeting. The giving of the treatment relies on the material that taken from the syllabus of the school. Then, the data were analyzed using the t-test method to find out whether or not there is a significant difference between the Ability In Writing Descriptive Texts of The Eight Grade Students of SMP 02 Trangkil Pati in The Academic Year 2011/2012 before and after being taught by using Parallel Writing Technique.

The first category was the general condition in English class during teaching reading descriptive text through group work. The teacher said students’ condition was good enough. In this sense, students could do the exercise well in line with the teacher’s instruction. They could pay attention and focus on the teacher’ s explanation. They also more comprehended the schematic structures of descriptive text. They could not only improve their reading comprehension, but also could develop their social interaction and could share the ideas one another. Then, they could enrich their critical thinking ability, could more responsibly for their own learning and learning of others, and could enjoy in learning activities. Moreover, they could easily to determine which including into main idea, supporting details, and purpose of the text. Then, the teacher assumed that group work technique was a good idea to teach descriptive text because students could enjoy in learning descriptive text, could analyze the schematic structure of the text and could comprehend the descriptive text together.

The research was held on SMP Negeri 1 Gido that is located at Jl. Pemuda No. 5 in Hiliweto Village, Gido Sub-district, Nias regency. It is around 25 kilometers from Gunungsitoli town. The total numbers of teachers were 49 persons whereby 5 persons of them were the English teachers. Meanwhile, the total number of the class were 24 in three different grades. The total numbers of the students were 904 persons. This school is one of a favorite school in Nias regency. It was accredited with A score. It had a library as the bank of teaching material. Besides, there was also free Wi-Fi connection around the school that allows each students access to networking freely to search important information such as the references of teaching material. There were several programs like extracurricular activity of this school that was ran in every week such as PRAMUKA, extra-class in the afternoon, sports, and so on. Every year, this school delegate several students to be as member of OSN competition in regency level. Two years ago, the delegation of the student of this school was successful to enrich the second position of English Olympiad, but this year, they only got as the third position. Furthermore, the subject of the research was the eighth grade which consisted of eighth classes. The total numbers of the students of subject were 287 students. In conducting the research, the research selected A class as the subject of the research itself that was consisted of 35 students.

Hence, it can be seen that the pronoun ‘they’ refers to the children. Therefore, it is translated into ‘anak-anak’ (children). Actually, it can be translated into ‘mereka’ (they). However, by translated it into ‘ anak-anak’, it is more explicit than translated into ‘mereka’. Besides, it makes a case of explicitation as the material which would be made explicit is already explicit. In this case, it tends to make the material is more explicit in the target expression. Online game addiction is not classified as a formal disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of mental Disorders (DSM). The persentages are found in several countries youth being pathological games, including 8,9% in US (Gentile, Coyne, & Bricolo, 2013), 8,7% in Singapore (Choo et al., 2010), 10,3% (Peng & Li, 2009) and 10,8% (Peng, Mai, & Jing, 2009) in China, 8,0% in Australia (Porter, Starcevic, Berle & Fenech, 2010), 11,9% in Germany (Grusser, Thalemann, & Griffiths, 2007), and 7,5% in Taiwan (Ko, Yen, Yen, Lin, & Yang, 2007). One of the reasons why someone being video games addiction is depression. Furthermore, anxiety, social phobia, and school performance also became worse after becoming a pathological gamer. Additionally, if someone stopped being pathological gamers, their depression, anxiety, social phobia, and school performance all improved.
