Jason is reading a leaflet about wild animals. Read it carefully, choose the best answers for Questions 17–21 and complete Question 22.

Kangaroos

Kangaroos move by hopping and bouncing on their hind legs. Their long tails help them maintain balance and control the angle of their bodies as they hop.

Female kangaroos have a special pouch for carrying their babies. It provides a warm and safe environment for them.

Kangaroos feed their babies milk in the pouch. They also produce a natural liquid inside their pouches that kills harmful viruses.

Elephants

There are two species of elephants:

Asian and African elephants. Both male and female African elephants have tusks, while only the male Asian elephants have them.

Elephants use their long trunks to grab food, suck water and sense danger. They can even use them as snorkels while swimming.

Female elephants are known to be great mums. They help one another take care of the young. They feed the babies milk, teach them how to pick the best plants and defend them against predators.

Alligators

Alligators have about eighty teeth in their mouths. They can be replaced many times during an alligator’s lifetime.

Alligators can swim fast. They can also run on land with their short but powerful legs.

They use their jaws to grab the prey and drag it into the water.

Mother alligators pick up their eggs, keep them in their mouths and carry them to the water. This can keep them safe from predators before they hatch.

Orangutans

Orangutans are the largest tree- dwelling animals in the world. They spend most of their time in the trees. Although they look like monkeys, they are not the same. Their diet consists of different food, including fruits, leaves, flowers, insects and bark.

During the first two years of life, the mother orangutans provide all the food for their young. They spend six to seven years teaching them survival skills, such as finding food and building a nest in the jungle.
