NEW MEDIA AND ITS ROLE IN SAUDI SOCIETY ISSUES

Abstract

This is a descriptive study aims to explore the role of New Media in issues of Saudi Arabia Society. It also identifies the differences and statistical significance of the perspectives and views of participants in study sample. This study applied social survey approach by sampling.

The sample composed of 1001 respondents from three universities in Saudi Arabia, respectively, King Saud, King Faisal and King Abdulaziz Universities. Study applied a stratified sample and questionnaire applied as a medium for data collection. Results emerged from this study, through its study sample, show that New Media plays an average to high role in highlighting social issues in the Saudi Society, namely issues of woman car driving, unemployment, administrative & Financial corruption, domestic violence , and poverty. Pertaining other questions raised in this study, the New Medias most popular applications among Sample Population listed respectively, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. The New Media has approaching on large scale, two issues, the domestic violence and woman car driving. Issues of poverty, financial and administrative corruption approached on average scale.

The study has concluded that more than half of the sample respondents agree that what has been debated and approached in social media on social issues, could lead to concrete social conduct manifested in demonstration and protest. On the other hand, study has found that the most influential social media that demonstrate the issues of Saudi society, respectively are Twitter, WhatsApp, and You Tube. There has been varied results in terms of personal variables and variables associated with new social media. There has been some differences in opinions regarding the study questions and issues of this study, among male & female and Universities. In accordance with study results and in terms of what has been reviewed in the theatrical section, study has proposed some recommendations including: (1) It is e
