Conducting scientific research is an important component for the development of knowledge. The Saudi Electronic University has considered the value of research which is to build knowledge-based society and boost various areas of science. According to this vision and based on the unified rules for scientific research in the Saudi universities, the Vice-Presidency of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research VRGSSR is planning to create an inspiring environment for faculty members and postgraduate students. It provides initiatives and incentives that support scientific publishing to enhance scientific research in the Kingdom.
The program of scientific research incentives aims at getting advance in scientific research, receiving best outcomes and accomplishing excellence in the University disciplines to promote the University position locally and globally. Such benefits can come from encouraging the spirit of competition among researchers to improve their performance to the award-winning level.
We are pleased to provide this guide that will clarify the procedures of applying for scientific research incentives at SEU.

Faculty Award for Scientific Publishing
The University grants faculty members this award who publish scientific research in prestigious national and international journals.
Vision
Substantial and distinguished scientific publishing.
Mission
To provide scientific research in different aspects of human knowledge and to publish it in distinguished journals in order to get advance in scientific research, and to achieve the community aspirations.
Objectives
1. Motivate faculty members to conduct scientific research.
2. Support researchers physically and morally.
3. Honor creative faculty members.
4. Improve scientific research.
5.Encourage distinguished scientific publishing in national and international journals.

Faculty members at SEU.
Financial award
The categories of this award as follows:

A. 15,000
Fifteen thousand riyals
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q1).
B. 12,000
Twelve thousand riyals
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q2).
C. 10,000
Ten thousand riyals
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q3).
D. 8,000
Eight thousand riyals
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q4).
E. 7,500
Seven thousand and five hundred Riyals
For research published in an accredited national journal.

Joint Scientific Publishing Award
The University grants faculty members and postgraduate students this award who form research team and conduct joint research.
Vision
Creating outstanding research team composed of faculty members and postgraduate students.
Mission
To achieve excellence in research through creating research team that would be able to lead innovation in knowledge-based society
.
Objectives
1. Encourage joint research among faculty members and postgraduate students.
2. Promote the concept of research in all disciplines.
3. Improve scientific research among faculty members and postgraduate students.
4. Enhance joint scientific research.
5. Keep up to date and explore the future of scientific research.
Candidates
Faculty members and postgraduate students at SEU.
Financial Rewards
This award is granted to faculty members and students who participate in publishing one scientific research. The award will be equally divided among the researchers according to the following categories:

For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q1).
B. 16,000
Sixteen thousand riyal
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q2).
C. 12,000
Twelve thousand riyal
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q3).
D. 8,000
Eight thousand riyals
For research published in a journal that is listed in ISI and rated (Q4).
E. 7,500
Seven thousand and five hundred Riyals
For research published in an accredited national journal.

Postgraduate Students Award for Scientific Publishing
The University grants postgraduate students this award who publish scientific research in prestigious journals to honor distinguished students and make the University be recognized locally and globally.

Advancement in scientific research and innovation for postgraduate students.
Mission
To encourage students to improve their skills and abilities by providing physical and moral support.
Objectives
1. Promote the concept of research for postgraduate students.
2. Encourage postgraduate students to conduct research.
3. Honor outstanding postgraduate students in scientific research.
4. Improve research skills of postgraduate students.
Candidates SEU students.
Financial Rewards
This award is granted to students. If there are more than one researcher join in one research, the award will be equally divided among them. The award categories are as follows:

Procedures of Applying for Scientific Research awards:
The applicant should apply online by the Deanship of Scientific Research website:
rtms.seu.edu.sa
Conditions:
1. The applicant must be a faculty member at SEU.
2. The applicant should fill in the application online by the icon” Request for Publishing Award”.
3. The researcher’s affiliation must be to SEU.
4. Application for awards should be during the determined time in each semester.
5. Research must be published in internationally-classified peer-reviewed journals (ISI) or accredited journals in Saudi universities.
6. The publication date of research should not exceed two years.
7. Research must not have been rewarded before by any institution.
The process of payment of publishing awards:
The process of payment is as following:
Award percentage
100% If the first researcher belongs to the University or is a single researcher.
100% If there are two or more researchers belong to the University.
50% If the order of the researcher is not the first.

Compensating Publishing Fees
The Deanship financially supports outstanding research through compensating publishing fees according to the following conditions:
1. Research must be published in internationally-classified peer-reviewed journals (ISI) or accredited journals in Saudi universities.
2. The order of the researcher must be the first.
3. The researcher’s affiliation must be to SEU.
4. The publication date of research should not exceed one year.
5. Research must not have been rewarded before by any institution.
6. The maximum amount of compensating publishing fees is four thousand Saudi riyals.
The researcher should apply online by the website of the Deanship, and the invoices of publishing should be attached.

Funding Scientific Research

This program aims at encouraging faculty members at SEU to conduct scientific research. This goes along with the goals of the Deanship of Scientific research that seeks to provide constant help and support for faculty members and students at SEU.

First support channel for faculty members at SEU.
Mission
To support faculty members in their scientific publishing.
Objectives
1. Provide a stimulating research environment for faculty members.
2. Spread the spirit of competition among faculty members toward research excellence.
3. Help faculty members to provide their research supplies.
4. Encourage researchers to publish in prestigious journals.
5. Enhance the role of SEU in scientific research.
The applicant should apply online by the Deanship website: rtms.seu.edu.sa
13 Conditions:
1. The applicant must be a faculty member at SEU.
2. The principal researcher must be an assistant professor or higher.
3. The order of the principal researcher must be the first.
4. The principal researcher must complete the project within 12 months. And he can request for an extension only once and for a period of six months, attached with a report to explain the reasons behind the extension.
5. The researcher should comply with the financial items of the first party.
6. The maximum budget of research is fifty thousand Saudi riyals.
7. The researcher should provide a financial report attached with invoices.
8. The researcher should provide a brief scientific report at the end of the contract attached with file of the work in soft copy.
9. When the principal researcher leaves, he should suggest a member from the team to replace him and this should be online by the website of the Deanship.
10. The research proposal should be subject to peer-reviewing and ranking.
11. The research proposal should be submitted during the determined time every year.
12. The researcher should submit his request online by the website of the Deanship.
13. The principal researcher must not have applied the research proposal to any institution before.
14. Research must be published in internationally-classified peer-reviewed journals (ISI) or accredited journals in Saudi universities.
15. The researcher must acknowledge only DSR at SEU and not anybody else.
Application and Implementation Process:
1. The principal researcher should submit the research proposal online by the website of the Deanship.
2. The Specialized Committee should edit and review the research proposal.
3. The research proposal should be sent to the peer-reviewers to review.
4. The contract will be signed when the research proposal successfully passed the reviewing stage.
5. The Supervisory Committee will follow up the research by the website of the Deanship.
6. The principal researcher can request for an extension only once but not exceeded than six months, attached with a report to explain the reasons behind the extension.
7. Research will be done when the researcher has submitted the final financial report plus published research. Nevertheless, he should notify the Deanship of his inability to publish research and submit the letter of publishing approval.
8. If the principal researcher does not publish research, he must submit a final
technical report and the financial one of research or he must return the payment of the research budget.

9. The Principal researcher will not be able to join the program again if he does not publish his research.
Financial support:
The research budget will be paid as follows:
The researcher should request for advance for necessary supplies by the website of the Deanship. The Specialized Committee will discuss the offers that have been presented.
When the researcher has completed research and received the approval letter of publishing, he should submit a detailed financial report attached with the invoices.
