2 Focus on Reading

A- Reading One: Organic Produce vs. Regular Produce

Mr. Green has a newspaper advice column called “ Ask Mr.

Green.”

People with shopping problems write to him. Read this letter to Mr.

Green. The writer asks two questions. How will Mr. Green answer

these questions?

Dear Mr. Green:

Lately, I see more and more “organic” fruits and vegetables in the supermarkets. I’m

confused. Often the organic apples or strawberries aren’t as red or as large as the

regular ones. They sometimes have spots or insect holes. Also, organic produce can cost

three times as much as regular produce! So, tell me, what exactly are organic fruits and

vegetables? And why are they so expensive?
