A brief assessment of the overall design of the program. 0. 1.1. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology curriculum executes realistically,. 1. affording the first year students with basic Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Islamic. 6. Culture and English teaching and communications skills to go ahead in the coherently proceeding field-specific studies. During the first year and second, the Biology courses “Plant Kingdom, General Anatomy, Invertebrates, Vertebrates, Plant Ecology, Plant Taxonomy” confer the students an impression about the nature of studying in the B.Sc. program in Biology and supply them with interesting knowledge and information in biology field.. 1.2. The learning outcomes of the B.Sc. program in Biology are inclusive and adequate from the standpoint of the working field. On individual microbiology courses, the learning outcomes are realized and specific, and form the essentials for the valuation.. 2. A brief assessment of the program delivery and operations 2.1. The beginning of the studies is efficient, intensive and vigorous. The students are completely integrated right in the starting into the academic society. In the incorporation of the students, both the analogue student tutors and the teacher advisors play a paramount role. In the beginning, we acquire a consciousness that the teaching staff is here for each of us, and that the discussion between the staff and students is free.. 2.2. The student counselling starts at a precocious stage and it is efficacious. It is mostly known where the provision of assistance and guidance is available and in which form. After the starting of the studies, the student counselling is not methodical. After ending of the first year, it is the student’s own accountability to seek one’s way to the student counselling.. The teaching methods of the courses involve lectures, homework, tutorials, laboratory/project assignments, and e-learning. Several courses employ the above. 2. mentioned teaching methods in several or different ways. The materials given in the. 0. lectures and tutorials are updated, and it is also electronically available, thus authorizing the self-study in most cases. Usually, the lectures are highly visualizing, practical, and interactive. The educational skills of the teaching staff are varied to. 1 6. some extent. This seems to influence the various use of teaching methods. The course materials are delivered regularly and some time electronically. The handouts of the course are adequate and include the fundamental issues of the courses, and the students are permanently referred to the updated text Books.. 2.4. The academic teaching staff of the Biology program supplies the students with information related to career counselling and the development of practical professional skills.. 3. A brief assessment of the program outcomes 3.1. The learning outcomes of the degrees of the B.Sc. in Biology Bachelor set by the degree program are realized magnificently and the students’ education related expectations are met. 3.2. The degree related expectations of the working field are met totally, as regards to the working life related informative knowledge and skills.. 3.3. More practical skills are yearned to good extent. After the graduation, the employment opportunities are good to some extent, and the graduates from B.Sc. program in Biology are respectable by the employers.. 4. Main strengths and weaknesses of the B.Sc. program in Biology 4.1. The strength of the B.Sc. program in Biology is the teaching of Biology, the graduates from the B.Sc. program in Biology are excellent specialized, regarding the working field anticipations. The lack of extracurricular activities and shortages of laboratory materials, There are at times shortages in chemicals, lab materials and equipments that could not allow the delivery of the laboratory session in practical way, and it is delivered by visual aids instead. Although this is not a common issue, and it happens in rare occasions, it still requires attention from the program and department leaders. Also there are courses that have no extracurricular activities, compared to other courses that have some activities like short or long essays in the form of home work.
