College Requirements

This course provides an overview of health care policy making and describes health care policy in KSA with specific examples from types of health care systems. The course provides an analytical framework for health policy and examines in depth a range of different healthcare systems, including the Saudi healthcare system. This course is designed to provide the student with an overview of healthcare management, including its definition, function and competencies.

The purpose of this course is to explain how people behave and why they behave in such ways in organizational settings. Students will be introduced to how to apply basic theoretical concepts of biostatistics in health sciences, epidemiology and public health. The concept of probability with its applications in epidemiology and public health will be introduced.

The course concludes with a moderated presentation of important probability distributions commonly used in epidemiology and public health. The health and education sectors have stimulated an increase in health promotion programs and infrastructure. This course increases the student's awareness of the factors that affect health such as; heritage, environment, healthcare and our own behaviour.

It also provides students with knowledge and practice in integrating technology with health promotion practice. This course will focus on introducing the history and concepts of epidemiology, using the principles and methods of descriptive and analytical epidemiology to address public health problems and issues. This course will raise awareness of a wide range of ethical challenges that may arise in the health care profession.

This course is designed to familiarize students with theory and research on communication in health and illness contexts, focusing on how messages from interpersonal, organizational, cultural, and media sources influence health beliefs and behaviors. The course will examine communication in health care delivery, health care organizations, as well as health promotion and disease prevention. This course spans various levels of communication, different communicative channels and the use of diverse communication media and technologies, and will demonstrate a variety of perspectives from which the students examine health communication at an individual, family, professional, organizational and societal level.

Specialization Requirements

This course is an introduction to the central concepts and practices of public health, which is the science of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts of society. The goals, interdisciplinary roles and . challenges and frameworks for public health practice will be explored. This course introduces the student to the subject Sociology of health, illness and healthcare and its applicability to healthcare organisations.

This course will also provide an understanding of the strategies to identify and remove barriers that affect health and work. This course is designed to introduce students to the pathophysiology of various diseases related to public health and will build the foundation for advanced courses related to these diseases. With a comprehensive introduction to the prevalent mental health and behavioral disorders; the course provides students with knowledge in mental health epidemiology, wider determinants of mental health, risk assessment, prevention and research.

As part of the ongoing exploration of issues central to the study of public health, this course will focus on theories of health behavior. The course will provide students with an introduction to the global burden of disease and the relationship between globalization and health, including recent global health issues such as climate change. To address this issue, this course enables students to understand and analyze the magnitude of the problem, which is considered one of the essential public health problems in KAS.

This course introduces students to the basics of road traffic injury and disability, global impact, approaches to prevention, and provides insight into identifying risk factors and developing interventions to reduce incidence. This study unit will introduce students to the nature of addiction, physical and psychological dependence, the concept of the disease of addiction, the regulation and laws of drug use (domestic and international). Also, students will be introduced to the abuse of over-the-counter and prescribed medications.

This course is designed to introduce students to public health approaches in the epidemiology and control of chronic diseases. Then the students will be introduced to the epidemiology of the prevention of the major chronic diseases, including diabetes. Students will be introduced to the Hajj in Saudi Arabia and potential health emergencies related to the Hajj and mass gathering.

This course introduces students to the principles and practices of maternal and child public health and exposes students to some of the key focus areas of the Millennium Development Goals, such as The course provides the students with sufficient background and understanding of the importance of oral health at individual and population level.

Track Requirements

Epidemiology and Biostatistics Track

This course aims to introduce the student to the epidemiology of cancer risk and prevention. The student will learn about the potential of cancer prevention, including lifestyle and medical interventions, prevention clinical trials, predictors of successful cancer prevention programs, and the economics of cancer prevention. Students will understand the use and limitations of risk assessment in establishing exposure standards, acceptable concentrations and environmental criteria for hazardous substances that pose a risk for health effects and the suitability of risk assessment for such purposes.

Basic approaches to environmental risk assessment will be emphasized, including methods for identifying health effects, modeling health effects, and deriving risk assessments. Methods for dealing with uncertainty and limitations and criticisms of risk assessment methods will be discussed. Despite progress and improvements in occupational safety and health, the working environment, especially in low- and middle-income countries, is still dangerous for workers.

A large number of work-related injuries and accidents occur worldwide each year. This course is designed to introduce the basic concepts of safety and health in the workplace in order to improve occupational safety standards. This course will cover some of the topics related to occupational hazards and risks, key.

Workplace health promotion (WHP) is the combined effort of employers, employees and society to improve the health and well-being of people at work.
